Chapter 201: Chapter 200: Death of the Witch
Lin Wanwan’s ears were filled with sounds, and as soon as she opened her eyes, her earlier memories swarmed back. After the bleeding, the toxicity seemed to have weakened, and she no longer fell helplessly into hallucinations.
She propped herself up, trying to sit up, and the next moment realized someone was holding her hand. Lowering her gaze, she met a pair of gray-blue eyes.
Xiao Yixun, with white hair and skin, beamed at her innocently: "Mother, you’re awake."
Nearby, Xiao Chong and Xiao Ce turned toward them in astonishment.
Mother? Xiao Yixun must be deeply unwell.
Xiao Ce had already subdued the mute girl, and as for the Witch, who wasn’t strong in combat, relying more on tricks, she was thoroughly guarded and had no chance to act.
Xiao Chong slightly furrowed his brows and stepped forward. Suddenly, Xiao Yixun screamed: "Don’t come any closer!"
Because her hand holding the broken porcelain was almost touching Lin Wanwan, Xiao Chong was wary and had to halt, instead speaking kindly: "Why do you call her mother?"
Due to his deceitfully handsome appearance, Xiao Chong easily gained others’ favor when he put aside his cold demeanor, and Xiao Yixun was no exception.
She looked at him and her voice softened: "Mother is just mother."
Lin Wanwan had sat up, and although her head hurt a bit, it didn’t hinder her movements.
Xiao Yixun’s hand was broken free, and she immediately showed a grim expression at Lin Wanwan, coldly saying: "Mother, are you going to see brother again? Are you abandoning baby?"
Lin Wanwan lightly touched her head, wrapped like a dumpling, glanced at the room’s situation, and understood.
She ignored the neurotic Xiao Yixun and instead asked Xiao Chong: "Cousin, what time is it now?"
"It’s a quarter past the Snake Hour. How is your injury, cousin?" Xiao Chong calmly changed his position, from where he could subdue Xiao Yixun at any moment.
Lin Wanwan flipped out of bed. Seeing her completely ignoring herself, Xiao Yixun lunged at her. Lin Wanwan raised her hand to catch her, but Xiao Chong was quicker, and in a few swift moves, he twisted both of Xiao Yixun’s hands behind her back.
Lin Wanwan reminded: "Cousin, be careful; this one’s skilled with poisons. I’m afraid there’s Poison Powder on her."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Chong stretched his hands even longer, avoiding any part of his body except his hands from touching the bizarre white-haired girl.
Just then, a little head suddenly darted into the room, like a small missile, crashed into Lin Wanwan, hugged her waist, and cried out in panic and grievance: "Mother!"
It was Qingyu, who had escaped Yun Shang’s grip and ran in against the wall.
"This is my mother!" That cry of "Mother" agitated Xiao Yixun, who suddenly let out a painful roar, bending her arm at an incredible angle, slipping like an eel from Xiao Chong’s grip, then lunged forward again.
Even though Lin Wanwan was incredibly strong, her reaction speed couldn’t compare to Xiao Yixun. By the time she reacted, Xiao Yixun had already snatched Qingyu away from her side, and an enormous scorpion, which looked terrifying, had crawled onto the back of Xiao Yixun’s hand, pinching Qingyu’s neck, retreating to the window.
In these swift actions, the situation inside the room was immediately reversed.
"You-you-you, calm down! Calm down a bit!" Lin Wanwan reached toward Xiao Yixun, her heart in her throat, almost tearing up from self-blame.
Despite her great strength, she hadn’t disabled Xiao Yixun immediately due to her soft-heartedness, letting this madwoman succeed. Now that Qingyu was in her hands, Lin Wanwan didn’t know what to do.
The scorpion crawled slowly on the back of Xiao Yixun’s hand, making everyone’s heart race.
Qingyu had just been sobbing by Lin Wanwan’s side, covered in tears, yet now held by Xiao Yixun, she wasn’t crying anymore. Instead, she was wiping Xiao Yixun’s tears off her face.
"Big sister, don’t cry."
Xiao Yixun stared down at Qingyu, who was clumsily wiping her tears with little hands.
Because Qingyu was clumsy, she almost poked her thumb into Xiao Yixun’s eye, causing them to turn redder, and tears flowed even more.
Yet Xiao Yixun seemed not to feel the pain, her body relaxing slightly, no longer gripping Qingyu tightly as if she might tear her apart the next moment.
"Why...why did you take my mother?" Xiao Yixun asked, puzzled.
She was truly perplexed, her expression genuine, emotions laid bare, like an emotional mirror.
Qingyu stopped her hand, looked up at Xiao Yixun, and angrily said: "That’s my mother!"
"You are lying! Mother is mine!"
"It’s my mother!"
"Mine!"
"Mine!!!"
Xiao Yixun and Qingyu started arguing childishly, causing others to be worried sick as the scorpion crawled around Qingyu’s neck.
Frustrated, Qingyu grabbed the scorpion and placed it on Xiao Yixun’s shoulder!
Lin Wanwan felt her heart leap into her throat, couldn’t help but cry out.
Fearless innocent Qingyu wasn’t afraid of the scorpion at all. Qingyu feared little except being hungry. Just like they say—the newborn calf isn’t afraid of the tiger—applied well to a child Qingyu’s age.
"You’re already so big! As tall as Mother, how can you be Mother’s baby!" Qingyu began stating facts and reasoning.
Xiao Yixun seemed stunned at these words, mumbling: "How did I get this tall..."
In her moment of slack, Xiao Chong moved lightning-fast, rescuing Qingyu.
Without a hostage, Lin Wanwan immediately stepped forward and kicked out in fury.
Getting hurt, she could ignore, but threatening Qingyu, she couldn’t abide! Xiao Yixun’s mental state didn’t matter to her, nor did her sanity; Xiao Yixun aimed to harm Qingyu!
The Witch, who had fallen and couldn’t rise, found some strength from somewhere and, at the moment Lin Wanwan was about to kick Xiao Yixun, rushed at Lin Wanwan’s leg, holding on tightly.
"Crack!" The sound of breaking bone echoed, and the Witch was kicked to the ground, bleeding from nose and mouth, on the verge of dying.
The toxic insects and scorpions that had been lurking on her body smelled the peculiar scent of blood and crawled out from her clothes, immediately covering her face, viciously devouring her blood amidst her shrieking cries.
Aside from Xiao Yixun, everyone else in the room backed away a step at this terrifying sight.
Moments later, the witch-like woman with her foreign attire was rigid all over, unmoving, while the venomous insects and scorpions, sated with her blood, fell off her face to the ground, dead too.
Xiao Ce, frowning, endured his discomfort to say: "It’s heard that the Barbarian Clan’s bred toxic insects react against their weakened host, yet as both are interdependent, when the host dies, the toxic insects naturally can’t survive either, saving us the trouble."
Qingyu hugged Xiao Chong’s neck, silently looking at the frightening figure of the old woman on the ground, unclear if she was scared.
