Chapter 77: Chapter 74: The Strength of a Squad Captain!
"Hey there, when did you switch to delivering food? Realized you’re out of your league?"
Wu Liang was not at all surprised to see Sun Zhoushan at the door. He spat out a remark that made Sun Zhoushan’s mouth twitch, barely holding back a retort.
Sun Zhoushan’s already dark face seemed to show the veins pulsing on his forehead.
"Hmph! Let’s see if your mouth is still this stubborn when you’re sitting in the interrogation chair later!"
With that, he reached over with the handcuffs.
Wu Liang couldn’t let him have his way. He stepped back a few paces and sat on the sofa, adopting a slouched posture. "Captain Sun, isn’t this against protocol?"
"Even if my position is low, I’m still a public employee within the official system. You need a reason for formal arrest, right? Has the official system become your personal domain?"
With just a few words, Wu Liang gave Sun Zhoushan a challenge.
Not even Minister Long would admit to the official system being a one-man show, let alone Sun Zhoushan, a mere frontline team captain.
Yet Sun Zhoushan didn’t buy it at all and didn’t want to engage in a war of words with Wu Liang.
He merely said coldly, "The intrusion incident in the community is related to you, right? I also suspect you’re withholding information about the Monkey Claw incident."
"As for proof... I reviewed yesterday’s surveillance and found this!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Sun Zhoushan opened a video on his phone and played it towards Wu Liang. It was the surveillance footage from the community.
The Monkey Claw incident was caused by a supernatural object and did not involve a Fierce Ghost.
This meant there was no supernatural lockdown caused by a Fierce Ghost that rendered electronic devices ineffective, so the surveillance was still functioning normally.
The footage showed Wu Liang pretending to be a ghost to trick Chen Lili into opening the door and the Mist Ghost opening the door to Li Xiyue’s house.
Due to the Mist Ghost’s obscuring effect, Wu Liang’s figure couldn’t be seen, only that the doors of both households mysteriously opened and then quietly closed.
Sun Zhoushan said smugly, "After the incident, you two brothers walked out of Li Xiyue’s house, but there’s no surveillance of you going in."
"I checked your brother Wu Ming’s records and found his Awakened Ability could hide your tracks, proving you both entered during the strange door openings."
"But the strangely opening doors happened not only at Li Xiyue’s house but also at the neighboring Chen Lili’s. So, you actually went to Chen Lili’s house too!"
Sun Zhoushan paused here, looking at Wu Liang with an extremely unfriendly gaze before continuing:
"Yet in yesterday’s report, you didn’t mention anything about Chen Lili. I suspect there’s hidden truth here! Come with me!"
With that, he was ready to cuff Wu Liang.
After all, he saw him as just an ordinary person with no way to escape arrest no matter how sharp his tongue was.
But who would have thought this guy wasn’t scared at all and continued sitting on the sofa, speaking to himself:
"So, you’re arresting me without solid evidence? Acting solely on conjecture?"
"Then I believe you’re betraying the official system with intentions of revolt, and the evidence I found yesterday might implicate you. Are you planning to silence me?"
"Wouldn’t that be a problem too?"
It’s undeniable that Sun Zhoushan’s speed of investigation and logical reasoning abilities were quite impressive; his questions were well-founded.
But alas...
Arguing was Wu Liang’s specialty!
During his university years, his reputation was known far and wide in journalism and he left an undefeated legend in the school debate team!
No chance of getting the upper hand over him!
Not that Sun Zhoushan didn’t have solid evidence, even if he did, Wu Liang would find a way to twist it!
"Hmph! Such a tough mouth! I’ll just take you back and confront you with Chen Lili; then we’ll see the truth!" Sun Zhoushan vowed confidently.
Little did he know, Wu Liang suddenly wore a mysterious smile.
Finally, he said it!
Face Lili in confrontation? That’s if she can still be coherent, right?
Don’t forget, he went to the community this noon and put the Nightmare Mask on her, leaving her mostly senseless.
Though not cruel enough to make her a fool, at least for this week, she can only stammer.
"Why don’t you bring Chen Lili here first!"
Whoosh—
As soon as the words left his mouth, Sun Zhoushan’s figure appeared right before Wu Liang, intent on ending his sophistry. Simply taking him back would unveil the truth!
But just as the handcuffs were about to lock onto Wu Liang’s hands, a thick mist sprang forth behind him.
Amid the near-blinding mist, the handcuffs were suddenly knocked to the ground by someone.
"Petty trick! Shadow! You too are implicated; still think of shielding your brother?"
Guessing it was his brother Wu Ming intercepting, Sun Zhoushan quickly drew what appeared to be an ordinary official-issued pistol from his waist.
Without hesitation, he fired towards the window.
Bang—
The muzzle spit fire as the bullet shot out with phenomenal force, the gusts it raised blew away much of the mist!
Revealing the surprised faces of Wu Liang and the Puppet Ghost, they hadn’t expected the Mist Ghost’s fog to be dispersed that way.
This guy’s gun was seriously off!
The force was akin to that of a sniper’s at close range!
"Surrender already! I don’t want to see any real casualties before your trial!" Sun Zhoushan said confidently from above.
It seemed no matter how Wu Liang’s brothers resisted, victory would be his.
In fact, he didn’t even aim the shot at anyone, just fired into the air outside the window.
"Interesting, was it a matter of the gun or his Awakened Ability?" Wu Liang’s curiosity about Sun Zhoushan’s combat capability was piqued.
Being able to become a captain, his combat ability must surpass that of He Zhan, right?
By now, an additional fierce scar appeared on Wu Liang’s face, and the Puppet Ghost beside him had entirely morphed into Wu Liang.
They had switched identities in the mist!
For no other reason—Wu Liang wanted to test Sun Zhoushan’s strength himself!
Especially after feeling Minister Long’s terrifying oppression at the official base, Wu Liang grew curious about the combat abilities of other Official Awakeneds, without chances to interact with those outside the He Zhan Squad.
Regretful indeed.
Today was just the day to try his hand!
"Want to try another shot?" Wu Liang also said confidently, charging towards Sun Zhoushan with a quick leap.
[Breaking Blade] Activated!
His hand morphed into the Kitchen Knife Ghost trait and he lunged for Sun Zhoushan’s gun.
The opponent merely shook his head, pulling out a baton from his waist and casually swinging it.
Thud—
Wu Liang’s hand collided with the baton, producing a dull, heavy sound, like a temple’s wood pile crashing into a large bronze bell, making one’s ears ache.
The strength was formidable.
At this moment, not only was Wu Liang stunned.
Sun Zhoushan was even more incredulous.
"How... how is this possible? How did you manage to catch this strike?!"
