Chapter "391"
“Virtual reality…” After Adam departed, True Spirit Laura said to the other two.
“Tell me, do you think perhaps we ourselves are living inside a created virtual world? That the entire Aetheric Void is merely a game world, and we are only characters within it, everything we do constantly observed?”
Lord Croft replied dryly: “Should I lock you inside the Mage Net for a round of education, lest your worldview shatters and the Mage World is left without its Watchers?”
Laura chuckled. “I only find the thought amusing. If one day in the far future we smashed the Aetheric Void and stepped into the world of those observers—assuming it exists at all—what would they think of us then?”
True Spirit Prometheus shook his head. “That day is still far off. The Mage World as it is cannot even dream of such power. Adam’s new project will simply be filed under the Institute of Personal Chips. Otherwise we’d have to convene another full council, which is far too troublesome.
The two of you draft a reasonable adjustment plan for the Mage Net’s authority according to his proposal. Laura, assign a mage skilled in soul magic to assist Adam.”
Laura nodded and vanished from the Source Space, leaving only a faint murmur drifting back: “I have a feeling that once the virtual world emerges, the Third Sacred Tower’s presence in the Surface World will become even more obscure…”
What is virtual reality technology?
It is a simulation system capable of creating and experiencing virtual worlds. Using computers, it generates simulated environments—an interactive, multi-source, multi-dimensional dynamic system of perspectives and behaviors.
VR is a major branch of simulation technology, a collection of multiple disciplines. It mainly involves simulated environments, perception, natural interaction, and sensory devices.
- Simulated Environment: A real-time, dynamic, 3D lifelike image generated by computer. Ideally, it should replicate all human senses—sight, hearing, touch, force, motion, smell, taste. In the Mage World, energy perception must also be included.
- Natural Skills: The user’s head turns, eyes, gestures, body motions—all processed by computer to generate immediate feedback.
- Sensory Devices: Multi-dimensional interactive equipment.
Adam explained these concepts to researchers from the Personal Chip Institute interested in joining his new project.
At the word “entity behavior,” Garfield’s eyes lit up. “Master, you mean if I log into this virtual world, I’ll have a body?”
Adam: “Through algorithmic transformation, the soul will gain sensory interaction equivalent to having a body. So yes, in essence, it will be as though you do.”
One researcher asked: “Lord Adam, I mostly follow your meaning. But I believe the current M-language is insufficient for programming on this level. That part can be solved, yes, but the issues of the world engine and servers are massive.”
Another added: “And as you describe it—if the virtual world is truly virtual, how will it host our substantialized souls? Letting real entities enter mere imagination—I can think of no algorithm to achieve that.
If what enters is only simulated soul-data, that’s easy enough. But it would be meaningless. If instead the virtual world were physical, then it would be like layering another Mage World atop the real one, equal in size. Even the True Spirits could not achieve such a thing.
Also, what happens if one dies inside the virtual world? Will that part of the soul be permanently lost, or…?”
One by one, the researchers raised such questions, voicing every challenge they could see.
Adam listened silently and carefully recorded each point. They were all vital—the very hurdles that must be overcome for virtual reality to exist.
At last he said: “Some problems are indeed unsolvable for now. But regarding the entry of souls into the virtual—Wendy Super Dimensional ,” Adam stepped aside, allowing Wendy to come forward, “will give you an answer.”
Before Adam and her elder sister, Wendy behaved like a child. But here before the researchers, she was more solemn than even her sister.
“If you’ve followed the cutting-edge of mage research, you know of Super Dimensional Adam’s study on wave-particle duality conducted a year ago.”
The researchers nodded in unison.
“Thanks to that work,” Wendy continued, “the Third Sacred Tower achieved a massive breakthrough in soul research. Through similar experiments, we proved that souls too exhibit wave-particle duality.” ŖåꞐՕ𝐁Ɛᶊ
The room fell into an uproar. All present knew their director was a master in the microscopic field. They understood how wave-particle duality explained matter itself. But none had ever imagined their own souls could be the same.
Even Adam had been shocked when he first heard Wendy’s claim. Though from observing wave-alloy he had guessed spirit force might have such properties, the soul was fundamentally different from matter. He had found no entry point for testing.
But the Third Sacred Tower were true soul specialists. The moment they saw material duality confirmed, they leapt to test the soul. In just one year—using the souls of billions of creatures from countless planes, running billions of experiments—they had proven it true.
Thus the Tower birthed a revolution in soul magic. A new foundation had formed. The Watchers were now pouring manpower into constructing an entirely new soul-magic system.
The chief overseer of this was none other than True Spirit Laura, with Aisha following after. This was one of the main reasons she had so readily supported Adam’s plan.
Of course, the details remained highly classified. The Third Sacred Tower preferred quiet progress; only when the system was complete would it be revealed.
Adam himself held a seat at the Soul Magic Research Institute, though he had not joined the central projects.
“The details are complex,” Wendy concluded, “but you need only know this: with our present techniques and magic, we can transform souls into a form capable of entering a virtual world.”
She added, “As for servers, you need not worry. The Third Sacred Tower has ample reserves of otherworldly Source. Your task is simply to build the world engine according to Super Dimensional Adam’s specifications, then feed it into the Source.”
With that, Wendy returned to Adam’s side. Adam spoke again: “Now, who among you is willing to join the new project?”
