Chapter 196: I Remember Your Kindness... I Know Your Intentions...
"Lily will be furious if she finds out, won’t she? She spent so much."
When it came to being a green tea bitch, his sister-in-law was undoubtedly the queen. Swiping the card had felt amazing, but now she was using this kind of tone.
"Just don’t tell her. The secrets between us are piling up, you know."
Luis kissed her cheek and teased with a playful grin, "Mom is always worried I’ll spend money on vixens outside. Well, now that I’m spending it on a vixen right here at home, she can’t possibly find fault with that."
"Get lost, who’s a vixen?"
"My sister-in-law is even more beautiful and tempting than any vixen."
Bantering and flirting all the way, they arrived at the five-star riverside hotel. Nancy, her face flushed, said, "Phillipa recommended this place to me. The private restaurant on the top floor is the most famous around here."
"She has a membership card here. If you provide her phone number, you get a 10 percent discount, and it helps her accumulate points too."
"Phillipa was incredibly enthusiastic, she even called ahead to reserve a table for us."
Hearing this, Luis revealed a meaningful smile. Nancy felt completely exposed, as if she were standing there naked, every one of her thoughts laid bare before her brother-in-law.
Dining at this place was definitely expensive. Once the bill was settled, a message would surely be sent to that Phillipa, probably including the spending amount for verification. To put it bluntly, Nancy didn’t want to miss a single opportunity to show off.
As for that Phillipa, her enthusiasm was driven by pure jealousy and a desire to keep testing the waters, which was exactly why Nancy felt compelled to accept, even if it was awkward.
Nancy felt as if all her secrets had been completely seen through.
She lowered her head, somewhat embarrassed.
But what made her secretly pleased was that her brother-in-law seemed to be a mind reader, intuitively knowing every single one of her thoughts.
"Although I don’t really like food of expensive restaurant.
Since Big Sister has already accepted the invitation."
Luis continued holding her hand, his smile warm and unhurried as he said, "Then we’ll order the most expensive items. We can’t let her look down on us."
"Okay."
Nancy’s smile was exquisitely charming. This was the power of real money, giving her a tangible sense of the happiness that comes from being utterly pampered.
Materially, she felt the thrill of being provided for, and spiritually, the bliss of being doted on. Gazing at her gentle and considerate brother-in-law, Nancy grew more and more resentful. How could her plain-looking younger sister have landed such an exceptional husband.
The private club was located on the top floor of the hotel. At the reception, they provided Phillipa’s mobile number.
The manager led them warmly, saying, "The two of you have reserved our best seats with a view. The minimum spend is 600 dollars, with a 10 percent service charge."
The private room offered strong privacy, though it wasn’t the formal type used for business banquets. Instead, a table and chairs were arranged before a massive floor-to-ceiling window.
Through the glass, they enjoyed the city’s most beautiful river view. The surroundings were decorated with a very upscale ambiance, definitely that European-American style, though Luis couldn’t quite pinpoint what exactly made it so high-end.
"Wow, it’s so beautiful."
Nancy immediately pulled out her phone and started snapping pictures feverishly, taking selfies and photos of the scenery, though she didn’t dare take any pictures with Luis.
Sitting down across from her, Luis didn’t mind. He picked up the menu first and then asked, "Big Sister, how about we order before you play with your phone?"
Nancy took the menu, glanced at it, and was immediately taken aback. No wonder they claimed to be the best around; almost every main course was priced in the hundreds.
"You order."
Nancy promptly pushed the menu back to him.
"Hello, we’ll have one Boston Lobster with Blue Cheese, two portions of Cod with French Foie Gras Sauce, one portion of Oil-Blanched Whole Pound Black Gold Abalone Slices, and Matsutake Grilled Marbled..."
"Any other recommendations?"
Luis inquired.
The manager input the order on an iPad, smiling as he said, "Our chef’s signature is the French-style King Crab Leg dish, and our signature main course is the Pacific Meat Crab Rice Bowl."
"We’ll have one of each, then."
Luis closed the menu and asked gently, "Big Sister, that should be enough, right?"
"Definitely enough."
Nancy was a little stunned; she had skimmed the prices, and just these few items added up to well over a thousand dollars.
"Sir, would you like soup or wine with your meal?"
Nancy picked up the menu again. Even the cheapest Borscht started at 38 dollars, which made her wince. Seeing that the red wines were generally priced around 60 dollars and up, she quickly ordered a bottle of red wine.
"If Lily finds out about this, she’ll skin me alive."
Nancy did a quick mental calculation.
This meal was going to cost nearly two thousand dollars. It was outrageously extravagant.
Luis lit a cigarette, smiled lightly, and said, "Big Sister, just go ahead and post it openly on your social media. If she asks, I’ll just say I was entertaining a business associate. Don’t worry, she won’t ask about the price."
"Got it."
Nancy’s gaze grew even softer, amazed by her brother-in-law’s perceptiveness and consideration. She felt a little embarrassed that her petty thoughts were so easily read, but even more, she felt the joy of having someone who truly understood her.
The red wine arrived first. A waiter, dressed like a proper foreign butler and wearing white gloves, stood by to pour the wine. If nothing else, the atmosphere was absolutely top-notch.
He also very thoughtfully asked, "Sir, Madam, would you like a ring light for taking photos? It’s complimentary."
"Yes, thank you."
Luis couldn’t help but smile, thinking to himself that this place’s success was well-deserved. They understood that customers coming here were bursting with vanity and, for the sake of indirect promotion, were willing to go the extra mile.
The food arrived quickly. Nancy couldn’t wait to start taking photos, holding the elegant stemware, with the stunning night view through the floor-to-ceiling window as her backdrop.
With every dish that was served, Luis tactfully waited without starting, accompanying her as she took pictures and even helping her select the best ones.
They hadn’t even touched their chopsticks by the time all the dishes were on the table, even taking a ’group photo’ of the entire spread. Nancy started to feel a bit embarrassed, "Brother-in-law, let’s eat quickly. It won’t taste as good if it gets cold."
"Alright, cheers."
Luis raised his glass and clinked it with hers.
The wine itself wasn’t intoxicating, but the atmosphere was. Seeing her face filled with vain, satisfied rapture, that very allure made Luis’s heart stir with restless excitement, eagerly anticipating the night that lay ahead.
Such a high end restaurant, is exactly what Nancy has always dreamed of, but it is also something that Daniel could never provide for her.
That wasteful husband of hers had enough money to throw away in bars, but he would never take her to a place like this for dinner. So once again, Nancy compared her husband with the gentle and considerate brother in law in front of her, and her jealousy towards her sister skyrocketed yet again.
"Lily asked what time we are going back?"
Nancy checked her Whatsapp and asked softly.
Luis, right in front of her, directly sent a voice message to Lily: "Wife, something came up and we have to go back tomorrow. My elder sister and I will stay in the capital for the night."
"She said she made plans to hang out with classmates tonight. I will go back to the hotel by myself later, go for a swim to exercise, and then just go to sleep."
After sending this, Nancy’s face turned completely red, both from the wine and a slightly shy blush.
She lowered her head and thought for a long while, then said softly, "Brother in law, you promised me. We cannot do anything to let Lily down. She is my biological sister."
"I still remember!"
Luis immediately declared with great conviction, "Elder Sister, can you not see my feelings for you? If it were any other woman, just for the sake of venting desire, do you think I would care so much?"
His words were filled with sincerity and deep affection, which Nancy naturally felt. The women in this circle are all very realistic, they would do anything for money.
Comparing it again to Chloe’s situation, she understood even more clearly how precious these genuine financial investments were.
If an outsider tried to take advantage of the situation now, they would have long since coerced her into selling her body. Moreover, how many outsiders would be willing to spend so much money to help her?
Yet, her brother in law treated her with such care, such caution, filled with love and consideration. Nancy was no fool; she had long been deeply moved.
The investment of real money, coupled with such thoughtful effort, was a kind of affection she had never experienced before. It completely shattered this wife’s shameful reserve.
"I know!"
The wine was intoxicating, especially with the romantic piano music playing in congratulations. Nancy’s eyes were exceptionally soft and charming as she said, "You stinky brother in law, I know your intentions are the same as other men’s. But your kindness towards me, your elder sister sees it all and remembers it in her heart."
