Chapter 616: Chapter 319: Cannot Solely Rely on Jane Quinlan’s Words Alone (2nd Update)
"Wendy, what are you talking about? How could Evie Larkin have sent me here."
Evelyn Claire shook her head, laughed, and put down her chopsticks: "Jane Quinlan was just transferred this morning.
You go back and ask around, our department is so busy, it’s a mess.
I didn’t have time to chat with Evie Larkin in the morning.
Besides, Evie Larkin is almost being ostracized in the department now.
I’m a coward; I dare not get too close to her.
I just ran into you, and thought you haven’t been pulled down yet, so I wanted to give you a hand.
You can take it or leave it as you wish.
Anyway, I’m just a small-time clerk, this is my life.
I don’t even hope to cling to Director Forrest.
I don’t have any conflict with Jane Quinlan, and I don’t need to offend her, that’s the reality.
It’s okay, if you don’t take my advice, there is nothing I can do."
Wendy pouted: "Then why are you so agitated, if it is not then it isn’t."
"I’m genuinely trying to help you, but you don’t appreciate it. Can I be angry?"
She wiped her mouth: "Alright, alright, I’m not eating anymore, I have to go back and continue working."
Wendy waved her hand: "Fine, you can go."
Evelyn Claire stood up, took her tray, turned around and sneered, self-satisfied about something.
When Wendy returned to the office, Jane Quinlan was not at her desk.
Curious, she went and knocked on Kay Forrest’s office door.
There was no response, and just as she wondered if no one was there, the office door opened from the inside.
Kay was standing at the door, looking a bit displeased: "What is it?"
"Oh, Director Forrest, I saw Jane Quinlan wasn’t here, so..."
"It’s lunch break; why are you looking for Jane Quinlan?"
Wendy thought for a moment and chuckled: "I brought her a cup of coffee and left it in the pantry."
"Coffee? She can’t drink that. You drink it yourself."
He said, and then closed the door. Wendy was still standing there, and then Kay opened the door again adding, "In the future, during lunch breaks, don’t knock on my office door unless it’s an urgent matter that can’t be avoided; I need to rest too."
"Okay, Director Forrest."
Kay closed the door and returned inside, glancing at Jane Quinlan napping on the sofa under a thin blanket and smirked.
The little thing, sleeping so heavily.
Wendy clenched her fists tight.
Right, she can’t put all her eggs in one basket, trusting only Jane Quinlan’s word.
If Jane Quinlan is really plotting something, Wendy would be the only one to suffer.
She turned her head to look at the door of Kay’s office, knowing she must prepare for both possibilities.
With that thought, she immediately went into the pantry, took out her phone, and sent a message to Evie Larkin.
The content was concise and clear, "Let’s have a coffee tonight, you pick the place."
To Evie Larkin, this was certainly not a tone for negotiation.
She knew if Evie Larkin indeed harbored any resentment towards Jane Quinlan, she would definitely agree to meet her.
The first day back at work in the new year, Kay Forrest was not busy, so he left with Jane Quinlan before the end of the workday.
Wendy waited until the end of working hours but received no reply from Evie Larkin.
She got up, grabbed her bag, left the company, and reached the underground parking lot getting ready to leave when her phone rang.
She took her phone and saw a reply from Evie Larkin: "Sorry, it was very busy in the department today, I just saw the text message. I have to work late tonight.
If it’s not urgent, let’s have lunch together tomorrow; I’ll treat you."
She pursed her lips and left the company.
In the evening, Daisy Zenith learned from Benjamin Quinlan that Jane Quinlan was pregnant and insisted on treating Jane to dinner. Jane agreed, and naturally, Kay Forrest would also join.
The four of them met at West Asia Club, with Kay treating, but unfortunately, Jane couldn’t eat much.
Daisy was the happiest, her first time dining at such a fancy place, her heart completely thrilled.
"How can this place be so nice, oh my god, this is the first time I’m eating such a large lobster.
This is only something you see on TV, I’m so fortunate."
Benjamin Quinlan flicked her forehead: "Alright, look at how excited you are, let’s not embarrass ourselves, shall we?"
Daisy pouted: "It’s not my fault; I’ve never been to such a nice place since I was a kid."
Kay Forrest patted Daisy’s shoulder: "It’s okay, shout and scream all you want, this is our own place after all."
Daisy turned and gave Benjamin Quinlan a look: "See? Director Forrest said it, I can be surprised freely."
"Anyway, this is a private room. Even if I embarrass myself, it’s just in front of you three."
Jane Quinlan swallowed and complained, "Daisy Zenith, you are too much. Why does the food have to smell so good, my brain wants to eat but my stomach feels like throwing up."
"Then you should try a little. If you throw up, I’ll ask someone to change the dish for you."
Kay Forrest said this as he helped her pick some lobster meat.
Jane Quinlan glanced at it, hesitated for a moment, then ate a little.
It felt weird, her mind thought it tasted delicious, but once it hit her mouth, it felt disgusting.
She shook her head, stood up, and waved her hand: "You guys go ahead and eat, I’m going to the restroom."
"Going to throw up again?" Kay Forrest stood up too.
With a helpless sigh, Jane Quinlan turned and jogged into the restroom.
Kay Forrest said, "Benjamin Quinlan, you two eat, I’m going in to check on her."
As expected, she was vomiting again. She hadn’t really eaten much.
Now she was just vomiting stomach acid. After finishing, Jane Quinlan rinsed her mouth and laughed, "Hey, if anyone asks me how to lose weight, I’ll tell them, ’get pregnant and you won’t need to eat.’"
Kay Forrest helplessly rubbed her head: "You’re still able to joke."
"Alright, let’s go out. We can’t keep them waiting forever. You eat, I’ll whip up something I feel like eating when I get home."
"What do you want to eat? I’ll have the chef make it for you.
Let’s skip the hot and sour soup tonight; I’m worried it’s not good for your health if you have too much."
Jane Quinlan pouted: "Just make some smashed cucumber, I’ve been craving refreshing things these days, smashed cucumber is good."
Kay Forrest nodded: "Alright, let’s go."
After they returned, the three of them indulged in exotic delicacies, while Jane Quinlan enjoyed her smashed cucumber and seasoned broccoli, having a great time.
Feeling full is always more comfortable than being hungry.
Looking at Jane Quinlan’s pregnancy, Daisy Zenith felt a bit envious.
She was even older than Jane Quinlan, and yet Jane Quinlan was getting married ahead of her.
Kay Forrest seemed to perceive Daisy’s thoughts and asked Benjamin Quinlan, "When do you two plan to get married?"
Benjamin Quinlan glanced at Daisy Zenith: "Daisy Zenith can decide. I’m ready anytime."
Daisy Zenith pouted discontentedly: "You make it sound like I’m the one unwilling to get married. You don’t even want to go home with me.
Talking about marriage, don’t try to act all nice in front of Director Forrest."
Benjamin Quinlan spoke helplessly: "Isn’t it just about going home to meet the parents? How about this week?"
"Really?" Daisy Zenith was overjoyed.
"Really," Benjamin Quinlan smiled: "Can I lie in front of my sister and my future brother-in-law? Prepare yourself this week, I’ll go meet your parents."
Jane Quinlan secretly smiled, feeling good about the outing today; one way or another, she managed to accelerate her brother’s marriage plans.
Seeing Daisy Zenith so happy, Jane Quinlan also felt delighted.
On the way home, Jane Quinlan hummed a tune, and Kay Forrest held her hand while driving: "Feeling happy?"
"Don’t you think today was very fulfilling? I feel like my aunt should treat me to a meal.
She’s been looking forward to my brother getting married, and just because you asked casually, my brother decided to go meet Daisy’s parents."
"Silly girl, do you really think your brother decided to get married because of us?
If a man doesn’t love a woman, he wouldn’t talk about marrying her proactively.
The reason he wants to meet is because he has feelings, there’s love.
Benjamin Quinlan probably had already decided, it just needed the right moment.
Today, it just so happened we brought it up, and he casually settled on it.
Didn’t you notice? The way Benjamin Quinlan looks at Daisy Zenith has affection in it.
When a man dotes on a woman, that means he likes her."
Jane Quinlan turned her head to look at him, Kay Forrest quickly glanced at her: "Why are you looking at me?"
"I’m checking if there’s any doting in your eyes?"
"Towards you?"
Jane Quinlan raised an eyebrow: "Of course, towards me. Who else did you think, who else do you want to dote on?"
"There is no doting in my eyes."
Jane Quinlan pouted: "Hey, does that mean you don’t like me anymore?"
"Silly girl, didn’t you just see? Haven’t you noticed?
My eyes are full of you, there’s no need for doting."
Jane Quinlan felt a warmth in her heart. What’s it like to have a boyfriend who knows how to speak sweetly?
Well... it’s like wanting to eat candy every day, unbearably sweet.
