Chapter 606: Chapter 311: Sudden Surprise (2 More)

Just as she was puzzled, the phone suddenly hung up.

Jane Quinlan became even more suspicious, was Forrest now at the old Forrest Family residence?

On the other end of the phone, Evie Larkin placed the phone back on the table and returned to the bathroom door.

"Kay, I know you’re in there, answer me please."

"Stop bothering me, get out."

"Director Forrest asked Auntie to come up and make your bed, it’s already made, you should take a nap later."

Kay Forrest, wearing a bathrobe, opened the door and looked displeased at Evie Larkin: "This is my house, I don’t need you telling me what to do."

Seeing Kay Forrest coming out in a bathrobe, Evie Larkin shyly turned away from him.

"Kay, you... why aren’t you wearing clothes."

"Ha, what act, isn’t a bathrobe clothes?

Don’t make it seem like I came out naked.

Alright, alright, don’t be a nuisance in front of me, get out."

Kay Forrest walked irritably towards the bed.

Evie Larkin quickly said, "Kay, Miss Quinlan just called you.

I just picked it up and they hung up right away.

Don’t forget to call her back later."

Kay Forrest looked at him displeased: "Why would you answer someone else’s phone?

Don’t you know how to respect other people’s privacy?"

Evie Larkin bit her lip, her eyes blurry with tears: "You misunderstand my intention.

I saw the phone ringing for a long time and worried Miss Quinlan would be concerned, so I wanted to tell her you were bathing."

"Ha, enough, don’t stand in front of me with tear-filled eyes acting pitiful.

I made it very clear when I was downstairs just now.

It was Jane Quinlan who asked me to come back for the New Year.

If I had known you and Nolan Moore would be here, I would have chosen to be alone.

Since I’ve already agreed to Jane Quinlan, I won’t go back on my word.

During the New Year period, we should mind our own business.

Don’t provoke me, and I won’t bother with you guys.

After New Year, we can go our separate ways.

Do you hear me?"

Evie Larkin nodded, sniffed, and turned around: "Then you call Miss Quinlan back, I’ll get going."

As she turned to leave, Kay Forrest casually picked up the phone and glanced at it.

Call duration 14 seconds?

He dialed the number back, and the call was immediately connected.

Jane Quinlan curled her lips: "Done bathing?"

"Yeah, done. What did Evie Larkin tell you just now?"

"You tell me first, why is Evie Larkin with you, where are you?"

"At my dad’s place," Kay Forrest said irritably, sitting on the bed and kicking his legs up.

"When I came back at noon, I found both her and Nolan Moore here.

The two of them coincidentally came together to spend New Year with my dad.

You see, how lively my dad’s New Year is.

Adopted sons and daughters everywhere, he’s living the high life."

Jane Quinlan breathed a sigh of relief, but she immediately asked: "Then why is she in your room?

What was she doing while you were taking a bath?"

"Cheeky girl, doubting me, ever since I met you my body has been pure as ice and clean as jade.

I even face in your direction every morning.

If you doubt me again, I’m telling you, I just might have to trek over there for New Year to show my loyalty."

Jane Quinlan was amused by his words, none of which were serious.

"I’m not doubting you, just curious why Evie Larkin is with you.

You guys are rumored to be a couple now.

Can’t I be a little nosy?"

"Others get a beating for being nosy, you’d get a smooch, so you can, gossip, I’ll keep the account, all will be repaid when back."

Jane Quinlan chuckled: "I can’t be bothered with you.

Since you’re at the villa, let’s call it check-in, hang up now."

"Wait a minute, I haven’t checked on you yet, what are you doing?"

"So bored, super bored just here in the room thinking of my fiance."

Kay Forrest with a wicked smile: "Alright, check-in done, can hang up, keep thinking of your fiance, I’m going to bury myself in sleep."

"Sleep again?"

"What else can I do, go downstairs to play with Evie Larkin?"

"You dare," Jane Quinlan glared: "I approve you to go down and play chess with Director Forrest."

"Nolan Moore is playing chess with him, I wouldn’t go join the crowd, I choose to sleep." He genuinely flipped over to lie down: "Hanging up, babe."

After hanging up the phone, Jane Quinlan felt like she might have been a bit harsh on Kay Forrest.

He must have been really stressed these past few days.

She made up her mind, after the New Year’s celebration, she would return and surprise him by being there for him.

On the 29th, Benjamin Quinlan finally came back, and the family gathered together for a meal once again.

On New Year’s Eve, the uncles and aunts came along with Benjamin Quinlan to celebrate New Year at her place.

Because the grandparents were there, the family was happily united.

After the New Year’s Eve dinner, Grandpa and Dad played chess, while the uncles joined Grandma, Mom, and the aunts in playing Mahjong.

Benjamin Quinlan and Jane Quinlan sat on the sofa, eating dry pot, chatting, and waiting for the Spring Festival Gala.

"Brother, I’m planning to leave tomorrow afternoon."

"So soon?"

"All the relatives gathered before the New Year, and it’s just eating and drinking, there’s no need for me to stay at home really."

Benjamin Quinlan clicked his tongue twice: "Actually, I also want to go back, it’s so boring at home."

Jane Quinlan smirked: "Missing your sweetheart?"

"Not to that extent, but it’s just more comfortable when we’re together.

Besides, at home, my mom really knows how to nag.

These past years I’ve been abroad, so my mom didn’t have the chance to nag me.

This year, though, she found her chance.

From the time I came back yesterday until midnight, my mom’s mouth wasn’t resting."

Benjamin Quinlan said and couldn’t help shaking his head: "It’s terrifying."

Jane Quinlan chuckled: "I understand you, my mom used to nag me too.

Although it wasn’t about matchmaking or getting married and such.

But she could also go on about little tiny issues for an entire day."

"And you still come back."

Jane Quinlan shook the ring on her hand: "This might be my last New Year at home.

If I really get married next year, then I’ll be like spilled water.

In the future, coming back for New Year will really make me feel like an outsider.

Coming back is a comfort for my parents, and also a consolation for myself."

Benjamin Quinlan nodded: "Hmm, then how are you traveling tomorrow, is Director Forrest picking you up?"

"I didn’t tell him, I want to surprise him."

"Just don’t turn that surprise into a shock, be careful."

Jane Quinlan pouted: "Are you even my real brother, adding to my worries during the New Year."

"Before I came back, I heard from a colleague that Director Moore and Evie Larkin went to the Forrest residence for New Year’s too.

You’re not there, guess what others might say?"

Jane Quinlan thought for a moment: "At most they will say things like old flames rekindling, what else can they say."

Benjamin Quinlan shook his head: "You really are a dead pig not afraid of boiling water, you’re not scared of them saying old flames rekindling?

My sister, the people’s words are dreadful."

"Not afraid, I trust Kay Forrest."

Benjamin Quinlan gave her a thumbs up: "Alright, you win, I won’t say a thing, I support you going back."

At seven thirty, Kay Forrest called, Jane Quinlan started chatting with him, while Benjamin Quinlan went to watch chess with Grandpa and his uncle.

At eight o’clock, the family ended their activities and sat together watching the Spring Festival Gala and having a lively chat.

Around eleven, a flutter of New Year’s text messages started coming in one after another, and Dad received a New Year’s call from Kay Forrest.

Grandpa had gone to sleep, so Jane Quinlan’s New Year call had to wait until the next morning.

After midnight, the uncles and aunts finished staying up for New Year and went home.

Jane Quinlan also went back to her room to sleep.

When morning came, she got up and started packing, with her mom helping her prepare bags of stuff.

Benjamin Quinlan drove her to the station, and Mom tearfully sent her off on the train.

On the way, she wished Grandpa a Happy New Year, and since it was the first day of the New Year, return tickets were easy to buy.

By the time she got to Anchester, it was already the afternoon.

Jane Quinlan got home, put down her things, and took a taxi with a gift to the Forrest family’s old house.

When she got to the door, she gave Kay Forrest a call.

After Kay Forrest picked up, he sounded somewhat muffled: "I want to go back, do you approve?"

"I don’t approve, you have to stay at home until the fifth."

"Girl, I’m feeling like each day is like a year now."

Jane Quinlan giggled: "I know it’s hard for you, so I brought you a gift, my courier asked me to call you, she’s right at the door now, go pick it up."

"Really? You prepared a gift for me?"

"Mhm, don’t believe me? Hurry up, don’t make her wait in the cold."

"Okay, I’m coming out now."

After Kay Forrest hung up the phone, he went downstairs and out the door.

Upon reaching the door he looked left and right, but no one was there.

Just as he was about to call Jane Quinlan to ask if the person went to the wrong door, Jane Quinlan got out of the cab across the street.

With a beaming smile, she joyfully called towards Kay Forrest who was looking at his phone: "Boss, your gift is right here!"
