Chapter 582: Chapter 289: Wendy Looking for Faults
"Wendy, don’t you think that woman looks a bit familiar?" Evelyn Claire nudged Wendy after speaking.
Wendy shook off her hand, "Is there something wrong with your eyes? That’s Jane Quinlan from the assistant’s office. If she’s considered pretty, then every woman here is the world’s most beautiful."
Jane Quinlan? Evelyn Claire exclaimed in her heart.
Now that she looked properly, the dressed-up Jane Quinlan was indeed beautiful, and very beautiful at that.
It was completely beyond her expectations.
But wait, if Jane Quinlan became beautiful, what does it have to do with Wendy? Why is she getting angry about it?
No, there must be something wrong here.
Being the focus of so many people’s attention, not just Jane Quinlan felt uncomfortable, Benjamin Quinlan also felt awkward.
He took Jane Quinlan, who was holding onto his arm, and walked to the side.
Some were whispering softly, "Who is that, which department is she from? How come I’ve never seen her before?"
"This girl is really pretty."
Benjamin Quinlan whispered softly into Jane Quinlan’s ear, "Today, I must be basking in your glory; I’ve become famous in one shot at the company."
After entering, Jane Quinlan actually breathed a sigh of relief because among these female employees, her dress was not the most flamboyant.
Some wore cheongsam, some wore long gowns that swept the floor, while others wore very short dresses.
Basically, everyone was dressed in all manner of styles, and compared to them, her dress was rather conservative.
"Brother, stop it, everyone’s dressed so extravagantly. Let’s go, let’s eat," she said.
"You still have the mood to eat dressed in that gown?"
"Why wouldn’t I have the appetite? I’m here at the company’s annual event just to eat," she replied, then winked at him with a smile.
Benjamin Quinlan was speechless, really helpless as mud that couldn’t stick to a wall.
He casually grabbed a glass of wine, while Jane Quinlan let go of Benjamin Quinlan’s arm to pick some food.
Just as she was about to turn back to ask Benjamin Quinlan what he wanted to eat, she found that he had been accosted by someone.
Seeing their lively chat, they must be from the same department.
Jane Quinlan shrugged her shoulders and did not intervene, busy picking her favorite pastries.
A colleague of Benjamin Quinlan came over to gossip, "Dude, when did you get such a pretty girlfriend?"
Benjamin Quinlan gave his colleague a white look, "What are you talking about? She is not my girlfriend."
"If she’s not your girlfriend, then introduce her to me, will you? I’m still single here."
Benjamin Quinlan patted his male colleague’s shoulder, "Come on, Darren, don’t set your sights on her.
This flower is already taken, and by a very prestigious person at that.
You, my friend, are out of your league."
"Fuck, man, are you looking down on me?
I have a car and a house and am ready to marry at any time."
"No use, instantly outclassed," Benjamin Quinlan mysteriously shook his head.
"Give it up, you’re just showing off, she’s your girlfriend, you’re afraid I’ll steal her away," said the colleague.
"Pfft, don’t we look very similar?"
"Similar? What do you mean, are you trying to announce you have a couple’s resemblance?" The male colleague laughed, "Dude, you still believe in that kind of thing these days?"
"She’s my cousin, my blood-related cousin, my dad’s brother’s daughter," Benjamin Quinlan shook his head helplessly, "Why is it so hard to talk to you."
The male colleague then seriously looked at the two of them, "Well, really, should I start calling you big brother then?"
"Stop teasing, my little sister has a boyfriend, and it’s someone very famous here in Anchester."
"How famous can they be?"
"Hmm... if I told you, I might scare you. Better not to ask too much."
Jane Quinlan finished picking her pastries and found a quiet corner to sit down; today’s pastries were very much to her taste.
Just then, at the entrance, Kay Forrest came in, pushing old Mr. Forrest, with Nolan Moore and Evie Larkin following behind.
As soon as the four came in, there were welcoming applause from those around them.
Jane Quinlan didn’t move, still sitting in her spot.
As Kay Forrest surveyed the surroundings, looking for someone, Wendy, who was not far from Jane Quinlan, moved to block her from his view.
He scanned the crowd without success and had no choice but to first take the old gentleman around the crowd for a bit.
Old Mr. Forrest was really just there to show his face; after making his appearance, Kay Forrest then pushed him to a resting room.
"Dad, you rest here; if you need anything, ask someone to get it for you. I’m going out to have a look," said Kay Forrest.
"I bet you’re going to look for that little girl Jane Quinlan," said the old man.
With a devilish smile, Kay Forrest replied, "Indeed, father knows best."
"Take it easy, it’s the annual event today," the old man cautioned.
Kay Forrest gave old Mr. Forrest a reassuring look before leaving.
Nolan Moore and Evie Larkin stayed in the hall, respectfully seeing off the two Forrest men, then Evie Larkin headed towards the quiet corner.
Just a few steps away, they saw Jane Quinlan eating.
She stopped, and Nolan Moore approached: "What’s wrong?"
"Look, Jane Quinlan is so beautiful today."
Nolan Moore followed Evie Larkin’s gaze and saw Jane Quinlan.
And Jane Quinlan was also looking up; upon seeing the two, she put down her knife and fork, stood up, and nodded at them.
That instant, Nolan Moore was also taken aback; Jane Quinlan was stunningly gorgeous.
Evie Larkin approached slowly and said to Jane Quinlan with pursed lips: "Jane, you look truly beautiful today."
Jane Quinlan felt a bit embarrassed: "Thank you, Miss Larkin is the true beauty here."
They smiled at each other, and Evie Larkin added: "Miss Quinlan, please enjoy your meal, I’ll go have a look elsewhere."
"Sure."
Evie Larkin took a glass of wine from the waiter and turned around, Nolan Moore also came back to his senses and picked up a glass of wine, heading in the opposite direction.
Seeing Evie Larkin coming over, Evelyn Claire leaned in: "Evie, why did you come so late?"
Evie Larkin pursed her lips: "Went to pick up Mr. Forrest, didn’t I? Why haven’t I seen Wendy?"
"She’s sitting diagonally across from Jane Quinlan, and she’s been looking at Jane all this time.
They didn’t have any issues in the past, did they?"
"Seems like it, I’m not quite sure either," Evie Larkin patted her shoulder: "Go have fun, I’m going to sit over there for a bit."
"I’ll go with you."
Evie Larkin smiled slyly; good, it wouldn’t be lively if Evelyn Claire didn’t go over.
They didn’t go to Wendy but sat down not far behind her.
They talked here where Wendy could clearly hear them.
Evie Larkin told Evelyn Claire: "Jane Quinlan looks pretty tonight."
"She does look pretty. I’ve taken a liking to that dress of hers; it’s so beautiful."
"Yes, it’s beautiful, but you can’t afford it even if you fancy it."
"How expensive could it be? If she can afford it, then so can I."
"You can’t afford it; that’s a design by a French designer, and there are only three in the whole world.
Eldoria only has one, and the Anchester Paris Boutique got it.
Jane Quinlan’s dress is worth a lifetime’s salary for you."
"Really? No way," Evelyn Claire exclaimed in shock: "How would you know all that?"
"I used to pay attention to this dress because I really liked its grand design."
Evelyn Claire shook her head: "Wait, wait, how could Jane Quinlan, who belongs to the salaried class, afford such an expensive dress? It must be a knockoff, right?"
Evie Larkin smirked, saying nothing, because she noticed Wendy behind her starting to stir.
Wendy was about to approach Jane Quinlan, but seeing Kay Forrest coming over, she promptly retreated.
Jane Quinlan stood up after finishing her food and was about to get more when she noticed Kay Forrest approaching her.
She was startled for a moment; was Kay Forrest coming to talk to her?
Impossible right, but he was smiling at her.
Just to be safe, it would be better to avoid him.
She quickly turned around and went to get more food.
Kay Forrest stopped with a warm smile upon seeing her actions.
This woman, when made up, really is something else.
Seeing her getting eyed by men wherever she goes, he suddenly regretted it.
Making her look too attractive really drew too much attention, unsafe.
As soon as he stood still, company executives surrounded him offering toasts, Kay Forrest gave a sly smile; he could always bother that girl later, no rush at the moment.
Seeing Kay Forrest being pulled away to drink, Wendy smirked mischievously and slowly took a plate and tongs to pick some pastries.
Since she was heading in the opposite direction of Jane Quinlan, they ended up crossing paths inevitably.
Jane Quinlan, seeing she was blocking someone’s path, politely nodded and stepped aside, allowing her to go first.
But Wendy just stared at her dress, sizing her up.
Jane Quinlan stepped aside awkwardly to avoid her, but then she heard Wendy say: "Wow, I didn’t expect our company to be hiding a golden phoenix.
Your dress is a genuine brand name, I heard it’s the only one in Eldoria, must be worth millions, right?"
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was enough to draw the attention of the people around them who were picking up their food.
Jane Quinlan’s eyes lightly furrowed, a look of surprise in her eyes as she looked at Wendy, not recognizing this woman.
They hadn’t met before, so why was she looking at her with such malice?
Evelyn Claire, noticing the scene from a distance, nudged Evie Larkin: "Evie, look, look, Wendy is talking to Jane Quinlan."
Evie Larkin’s lips curved up, she was watching, indeed it was interesting.
