Chapter 304: Chapter 169: King, I Want You (Extra update for 8000 monthly votes)
"They say three women make a play, let alone four coming to my house at once."
In the bedroom, Shiayar sat down on his soft, large bed. A stir of excitement in his heart.Although the air was heavy with tension, he was still looking forward to the evening. It’s just uncertain what the final order would be.
Dyres, the least powerful among the contestants, had already reached 6-Ring, while the others started with Legendary spiritual power. Even if they had never touched that card game before, with just a brief understanding of the rules, they could quickly utilize their powerful calculation abilities to deduce the optimal solution in various situations. This would leave no gap in experience. This meant the deciding factor for victory or defeat lay mostly in the luck of the draw.
With the outward exploration of his spiritual power restricted, Shiayar calmed his mind and steadied his breath.
Then, he heard a series of muffled announcements through the magic-guided broadcast.
"Guding Saber, Drink, Fire Kill..."
"Unparalleled! Taking heads from the midst of thousands!"
Someone’s drawn first blood already? He wondered which girl from his own pond would be the last one standing tonight...
But Shiayar still forcefully suppressed the restlessness in his heart. Before that, he decided to settle the important matters first.
With a slight stirring of his will, a small, exquisite white Holy Chalice was summoned.
"My respected master, may I know what use I can be to you this time?"
Before Shiayar could speak, text appeared on the surface of the Sage’s Chalice.
Shiayar thought for a moment. "Tell me everything about that tiny mercury snake, the one with mercury flowing in its blood."
He sketched lightly with his fingers, using his Magic Power to draw the mercury-colored ouroboros.
"Master, you’ve actually come into contact with that one?"
Looking at the ouroboros pattern Shiayar had drawn, Chalice swayed slightly. "But since it’s someone as great as Master, it’s not surprising."
However, seemingly sensing Shiayar’s dissatisfaction with its flippant talk, new text quickly formed on the Sage’s Chalice: "As far as I know, It has had many names: ’Ritual Snake,’ ’Mortality Python’..."
"However, Its most resounding name is ’Serpent of Destiny’."
"This is the name of a deity famed throughout the Second and Third Eras. It’s said Its Authority isn’t particularly suited for combat but is directly connected to destiny itself."
"By virtue of this power, the Serpent of Destiny has always been able to court good fortune and avoid disaster. I’ve heard It never took part in the divine war at the end of the First Era. Thus, It avoided the fate of other participating deities, who either returned to the Astral Realm or fell into the Abyss."
"Then, during the Second Era and the early to mid-Third Era, when Fabled Creatures vanished into obscurity after that divine war, It quickly rose to prominence. It established Its own Terrestrial Divine Kingdom and Its Angel Family."
"During the calamity at the end of the Third Era, the Serpent of Destiny once again rapidly went into hiding. To my knowledge, a few True Gods personally performed a Godly Descent on the Western Continent to search for It at the end of the Third Era, but they returned unsuccessful."
"And from the Fourth Epoch to this day, even with my connection to the Spirit Realm, I have not found any trace of information about It there."
"Master..."
The Sage’s Chalice swayed. "As an equivalent exchange for this information, please answer the following question—"
"Did you come into contact with the ’Mercury Blood’ Angel Family, which was created by the Serpent of Destiny?"
"No."
Shiayar shook his head. "It seems I’ve captured Its very essence. It’s now locked up in the Spatial Pocket, right next door to you."
Chalice: ?
However, Shiayar quickly grabbed the Sage’s Chalice and returned it to its confinement.
After obtaining the answer he wanted, Shiayar pondered for a moment before pulling the tiny mercury snake out of the Spatial Pocket.
"GUH, just kill me."
It was the familiar line once again.
But this time, Shiayar didn’t resort to threats or enticements as before; he merely spoke softly.
"I seem to have misunderstood you."
"The timing of your appearance was too coincidental. I mistook you for one of those Abyssal Evil Gods preparing for a Godly Descent in the Empire Capital to harm my second wife."
"But now I’ve figured it out. The Serpent of Destiny has never sided with the Abyss, not since the First Era. And you’ve never shown any hostility towards me."
"In other words, we’re not enemies."
Shiayar’s voice was calm.
Although he bore the golden title of ’Godslayer,’ Shiayar wasn’t mad enough to kill every deity on sight.
His offense against the Ancient God of Twilight was to rescue his first wife, Silvia. His conflict with the Lord of Ashes was purely self-defense, as the Lord had practically attacked him first. The Crimson Red Moon was a similar case.
Subsequently, when facing Evil Gods from the Abyss who wished for nothing more than to kill him on sight, it was only natural for Shiayar, given his disposition, not to wait for their schemes to unfold but to proactively plan his own strike.
However, when dealing with a neutral or even Order-aligned deity like the Serpent of Destiny, Shiayar would not blindly oppose It, even though their chosen paths differed.
Otherwise, he would have already flattened the Holy Creed Kingdom and the Dawn Church.
The Serpent of Destiny had not participated in the divine war of the First Era. This meant It did not oppose his teacher, who was suspected of participating in that war.
Furthermore, the Terrestrial Divine Kingdom and Angel Family It established during the Second and Third Eras, regardless of the original intention, had indeed brought order and faith to the Calamity Land following the divine war.
