Chapter 142: Phera Has News
~ODETTE’S POV~
I showered and rinsed the dirt and sweat from my body. When I came out of the bathroom, Ambrose was sitting on the bed waiting for me.
Looking all handsome and masculine in his black on black ensemble.
"Where’s the fox?" He asked me, jolting me from gawking at him.
"She went out, and left a note." I pointed at the nightstand.
"The fox left a note? How is that even possible?" he asked picking up the note.
"She’s a spirit, I’m sure she can do a lot of impossible things."
"True. Do you know what her true form looks like?" He asked curiosity beaming in his eyes.
"You’ll have to wait until she shows it to you. Words can’t describe how beautiful and soft she is in her true form." I answered.
"Wow, you can’t even give me a hint?" He whined leaning back on the bed.
"Nope." I shot him a devilish smirk.
"You are unbelievable you know that?" He bounced up all the bed and rushed over to me in the blink of an eye. Scooping me up under my arms and spinning me. My towel dropping to the floor, revealing my naked body.
"You are so beautiful, it kills me." He spoke low and seductively, placing me back down on the ground.
I walked gracefully over to the closet. My hips swaying with each step, a teasing testament to my good genes.
"We’re having a pack dinner tonight. I’m sending Isabella away. She’s going to married to another Alpha, of decent standing, but far from here. But Morrison will remain here, so we still have to be careful when we are out my wing of the palace." He informed me, a slight disappointment to his tone.
Us keeping me and our relationship a secret was a pain, but a necessary one.
"That’s great, everyone gets what they want. She gets a title, her father gains an alpha for a son-in-law, and she stays the fuck away from me, my boyfriend, and my home." I nodded pleased by the outcome.
"Boyfriend? More like fiancé." He muttered.
"I need a ring if you want that label. A big red diamond. Or nothing." I told him.
"What the meteorite around your neck isn’t good enough?"
"No. A ring says I’m yours, the necklace says you like me. When you put a ring on my finger, you call me your fiancée." I grinned at him.
"Wear black." He used a demanding tone, clearly displeased with my conditions for a specific label.
"Kay." I answered shortly, acting like there was nothing wrong with his tone, ignoring the sad look on his face.
He will put a ring on my finger, if he wants that title. Period.
I search through and find the perfect dress. "Who all will be there tonight?"
"Most of the important pack members, it will be her farewell dinner, because she leaves tomorrow night." He hollered to me from the room.
"Wow that’s fast. How’d you make that happen so quickly?" I answered, sliding into the dress.
"I am their Alpha King, Odette, my word is law, it is absolute, and it is final." He grinned proud of his status.
"Fair point, I suppose." I yelled back from the closet. I sat behind the vanity, combing my hair and pinning it into a bun, applying light make up to my face.
"What are we going to tell your pack?" I asked.
"Tell them what?" he asked.
"About me! A vampire, being present at an important pack dinner." I reminded him.
"That we are working on a truce and you are my special guest. I plan to announce you as my future Luna during the Eclipse ball in three weeks. Until then, my explanation should suffice.
"If you say so, I’ll let you handle it. Only because Phera says my identity as the moon goddess’s daughter should remain a secret for now." I answered.
"Why? Did she explain?" Ambrose questioned.
"No, just everything has its time and place, and I’ll know when the time is right. Whatever the hell that means." I shrugged annoyed. Phera always did talk in riddles.
"Leave it to a fox to be slick and vague." He chuckled.
"Hey, what is that supposed to mean?" I shot him a fiery look.
"Just that Phera lives up to her species, she’s sly." He shrugged.
"If she heard you say that she might bite you, watch yourself now." I teased.
And just as I said that I heard scratching at the door.
Why would a spirit fox need to scratch at the door?
Ambrose walks over and opens it. Phera trots in like she just owns not just this place but the whole damn mountain and valley.
Suddenly, without warning a gust of magical wind her fur faded away, and her body straightened out. Her form glowed so bright it was hard to see in the room before the blinding glow faded revealing a beautiful white haired woman with large fox ears extending from her head her eyes a crisp blue, her cheeks an unnatural rosy pink.
"What the fuck!?" Ambrose shouted jumping backwards.
I was used to magic transformations like this. Once made not in shift but with magic itself. My Mammy, Lilith, turns into a dragon, but it’s more like a spell, than a bodily shift.
"Phera, this is a new form." I was surprised myself, her spirit form has eight tails, but as she stands before now, she looks mortal, except for her ears.
"This is my mortal form, yes, like you were just thinking. I have three forms: an animal form, helps me blend in. A mortal form, to live and communicate in the mortal world, and a spirit form, my true from." She answered with the kind of voice that carried ancient magic with it. Graceful, yet dangerous and powerful.
"Why is it you read my mind so easily, yet I can’t read yours? How is that fair?" I pouted.
"Because you are born of my creator, you cannot read the minds of those you create, but those you create can share your thoughts." Answering my question like it was the most natural knowledge to have.
"I guess that seems fair. I wouldn’t want my mother or father reading my mind." I joked, laughing to myself.
I remembered a time where I would think all kinds of mean things about my parents, forcing me to train so long and so hard, eat specific things, be and act a specific way.
"You and your mother can both share one mind, because you share one soul. I don’t understand? Father? Artemis has only ever had one love, and they have never made a child together. As far as I am aware, they haven’t even spoken in over 1000 years?" She looked so confused it was actually cute.
"I have another mother, remember? The one that birthed me?" I covered my mouth with both hands trying to hold back my laugh.
"Oh yes, that one." She said low and I laughed at how disappointed she sounded with that fact.
"Yes, that one. What’s wrong with that one?" I narrowed my eyes at Phera.
"With that question, I bring news."
