Chapter 129: The Wrath of a Goddess
~THIRD PERSON POV~
Artemasia ran out the door with all that she might need to help calm the raging goddess she knew was seconds away from going full nova in the palace.
The minute she stepped foot inside the palace, she felt it. Looking around she could see the shifters did too. They seemed heavier, the shoulders slumped over. Confusion worn on their face like a mask.
The power in here was strikingly strong.
She’d never been to Ambrose’s room, but she didn’t need to know the way, she just had to follow the source of the power. She moved with swift grace, confidence worn like armor, no one questioned her.
She got to his hall, and it had gotten stronger. Now standing in front of the door, she was frozen in place. She saw Ambrose kneeling, no one moving, and the sheer force of Odette’s wrath wrapped in a tycoon. Her body cover in white flames that licked the air like a lollipop.
She looked ethereal in the dark red dress that didn’t seem to burn her, more like they were an extension of her.
So, this was what Divine Fyre looked like in action.
It was horrifyingly beautiful.
Damon outside the door looked at Artemasia and groaned loudly. "Go do something, before she kills Lady Isabella."
Damon’s words snapped her back into reality, she understood.
She felt the urge to kneel just like everyone else. But she had to push through enough to throw the potion at the ground in front of Odette.
She stayed low, and pushed against the forceful winds that were tearing the room apart, the oppressive aura slamming into her.
She got in a good position.
And she saw it there.
The little fox spirit.
She saw it, in it’s true form, the glittering celestial designed etched into the fur. The way stars of magic danced on her. She saw the fox spirit in all its eight tailed glory.
"Wow." She whispered under her breath.
"Move, mighty fox spirit." She yelled to it.
Phera looked over and nodded, backing away from Odette. Phera knew they needed to try something, Odette wouldn’t forgive herself for losing control and killing someone over jealousy. But the wrath of a goddess wasn’t something easily persuaded away.
Artemasia took a dep breath and stood, throwing the potion hard at the ground in the space between Isabella and Odette. The potion exploded, with blinding light and ear shattering loud bang.
The force of it disrupted the magic in the room, sending the energy everywhere. Windows shattered glass flew around the room furniture broken, slammed into walls.
Everyone was thrown backwards. Including Odette and Isabella.
Isabella was laying on her back on the floor near the bed. Her neck was red, angry and puffy from the grip of magic around her throat. She sucked in loudly and started coughing and gagging on the air as it ripped through her lungs, filling them again. before suddenly fainting, falling unconscious.
Ambrose was lying on his stomach, pushing himself up to sit. He shook his head and dusted the debris from his hair. He looked around the room. Damon, Hector, Emalea, Ursula and Raven were on their backs in the hall.
Odette’s flames had simmered down, her eyes flickering from electric white to bright crimson red.
Still awake, but seemingly less destructive.
She just sat there. Unmoving. Phera walked over, no fear in her little body at all. And sat between Odette’s legs on her lap, she leaned up putting her paws on Odette’s shoulders and placed her forward to Odette’s.
Ambrose and Artemasia watched inside the room, and the rest of their group watched from outside in the halls.
They watched Odette close her eyes and connect with the little fox. They were in awe as the flickering flames were dowsed, her shoulders relaxed, the energy in the air calming. Odette’s hair settling down.
Phera head entered Odette’s head space.
"You knew, you went a little overboard back there." Phera stated flatly.
"Yeah, I know. I just couldn’t stop myself. He’s mine. And she dared treat me, like I’m an insult? I just couldn’t hold it in, once the pain reached my soul, it exploded." Odette argued. "But it was crazy, like my soul shared my consciousness and I could, literally feel myself, I don’t know how to explain it."
"You released Divine Fyre. Do you know what that is? What that ability is designed to do? Who it comes from?" Phera asked.
"No, I’ve never heard of it." Odette answered.
"Oh, Goddess, your parents taught you nothing about who you are. The witch and I out there have a lot of work to do." Phera groaned.
"I’m realizing this, but I can’t do anything about that." Odette defended.
"Divine Fyre is a gift from the goddess. The piece of herself she stripped and gave to you as your soul, she gifted you Divine Fyre with it in this life. Something to counter the DarkChild, to destroy him once and for all. You can burn him, his vessel and his beastly creations. You can bind him for eternity in this burning fyre. You can do now what the Omara the name of your first life, couldn’t before." Phera explained her. "You’ve used it twice before."
"What? I only know of one time, and I don’t really remember what happened. I was only told about it. I used on someone who," Odette spoke with discomfort unable to find a way to say what kind of person he was. "Who, who hurt women."
"Artemis would be proud. The same goes for the first time. But that is for the witch, Artemasia, to tell you. She is an ally; she can be trusted." Phera informed.
"Will I ever meet her?" Odette asked.
"Yes, I’m sure you will, when the time is right." Phera spoke softly with this next part. "It is time you calm yourself and return to them, you have explaining to do."
And with the conversation ending, Odette opened her eyes. The glowing white had since dissipated. The flames on her skin, gone, with no trace. The around the stilled and lightened.
The entire palace felt the lift instantly.
Artemasia looked surprised. Odette wasn’t knocked unconscious, but Lady Isabella was. The potion was powerful enough to take out the room and knock the weaker of the two targets out.
Maybe expecting a goddess to be knocked out but a mere magic potion was a bit farfetched. But it made her wonder what she could tweak to make it stronger in the area that puts people under.
"Odette?"
