Chapter 127: I accept
~ODETTE’S POV~
Everything that happened was crazy.
The fight we had, it was intense, heart pounding, fun.
It even felt a little erotic; I’ve never been handled like that. With care, yet he wasn’t holding back. It felt amazing. To fight hard, not holding back. I’m out of shape and my moves are a little sloppy, for my taste. And was a little too forward with my attacks.
Was breaking his nose a bit much? I didn’t mean to hit him that hard, I was just in the zone. Living in the moment. And I was giving him my all.
It’s his own fault he should have prepared.
At least that’s what I’m going to tell myself.
After leaving I went to our room. It still felt weird. Sharing a room with a man, when just months ago I wouldn’t even hold hands with my boyfriend in public.
I noticed on the bed a small box with a bow. I opened it. And it was a note that said "Check Phera."
I looked over to the little white fox on my bed. And there it sat, a small necklace, with the kings sigil on the tag and her name on the other side.
He really did get her the collar, and it made it so it didn’t look like an animal pet collar.
"Do you like it?"
Phera gave me a single nod, "yes".
Hopping in the shower to rinse the dirt and sweat off, I had time to myself, like truly to myself. I started getting lost in my own thoughts.
I missed home, I wonder if I could call my family, tell them I’m okay. I am his mate and even if they came and tried to me, I wouldn’t leave, at least not willingly. I like it here.
Maybe, I can accept Ambrose, maybe... Maybe here I fit in, I could have friends, and a life filled with choices I make.
I don’t think his people would accept me though. Not after what my dad did.
I sighed.
I don’t know what to do.
I ran my hands through my hair, feeling the frustration weighing down my chest.
You know what.
No.
This is my life, and I make choices based off what I want, not what might make the others around me happy.
I’m going to accept him.
I looked over at Phera who was sitting on the bed, patient and watchful. "I decided, after I get really pretty tonight, and I’ll tell him."
Phera nodded in approval.
"I can get ready in Emalea’s new room. And it can be a total surprise." I told her.
Eep. I felt giddy inside. Like a little girl unwrapping a Christmas present.
I gather my things, and head out to find Emalea. Phera trailing behind me.
She was in the palace’s main kitchen, prepping for dinner.
"Hey, Em, I need a favor." I jumped in front of her. Smile wide on my face.
"What?" She raised an eyebrow.
"I need help with a dress; I want to surprise Ambrose." I was so excited I could barely contain myself.
"Okay, go find Rose and ask her to take over for me, she’s in the vegetable garden gathering tomatoes for tonight’s dinner." Em told me.
"Kay, I’ll be back with Rose." I paused and looked at my little fox friend "Stay here, with Em, I’ll be back." I rush outside the staff kitchen and out the side door that lead to the garden.
"Rose!? Hey Rose!" I hollered.
"Over here!" She yelled across the way.
I ran over to where she was standing, following the carefully laid out path.
"Hey, hey, so, I need to borrow you. I need Emalea to come and help me with something special, but she said she needed you to take over in the kitchen, can you please come help?" I batted my eyelashes at her.
"Fine... Grab those last four tomatoes for me please. And lets go." She stood up with her basket full of tomatoes.
I grabbed the last four and carried them back with us.
"So, what’s the surprise." Rose asked.
"I can’t tell anyone. But you’ll know soon." I smiled to her.
"Fine, keep your secret’s." She teased sticking her tongue out at me.
"Mwahaha" I evil laughed.
She shook her head and chuckled. She opened the door for us and walked back to where I left Emalea and Phera.
"Here, I brought Rose, come on, let’s go." I eagerly pleaded.
"Yes, yes, alright." She smiled and looked to Rose, "Thank you."
"No problem, I’m the better chef anyways." Rose teased.
"Bye." We both waved and left the room, Phera skipping behind us. Walking to her new quarters. Which I still hadn’t seen yet.
"So, what’s the big surprise?" Emalea asked.
"I’m going to accept Ambrose." I said with confidence.
She halted dead in her tracks.
"You’re serious?" She asked with a look of surprise on her face.
"Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?" why was she acting this way?
"Oh! Odette! That’s great! Seriously, I’m so happy for you." She grabbed my wrist and yanked me forward. "Let’s get to my room, now."
I laughed and let her drag me all the way there.
When she let us in, I was surprised, she had things in here now. Things that made this place look more like her.
She had a vase and flowers placed on a soft oak dresser. Her bed was also a soft oak that matched the dresser and side table. It had a small chair in the corner net to another small lamp and table with a book resting on it.
"Okay, show me the dresses." She smiled enthusiastically at me.
"Okay." I pulled the different dresses out one by one. Laying them out on the bed.
"Wow, these are beautiful!" She stared with almost envy in her eyes.
"I’ll give you one for helping me." I told her.
"Oh no, no, no, I have nothing to wear it too." She denied.
"I will personally deliver you an invite to the gala coming up." I insisted, "You’re my best friend, you’re coming with me. As my guest. Okay?"
Emalea smiled "Fine. Try on the dark green on first."
She pointed at a strapless, pine colored silk dress. It hugged my waist and had a sweetheart neckline. And loosened just above my bottom.
"What do you think?"
Emalea turned around "No, not that one, it makes your skin look. Wrong." She answered honestly.
She was right though; green was never my color.
But it could be hers.
After she turned around, I undressed, I tossed her the gown "Green isn’t and never will be my color, you can have it."
She looked like she was glowing when I told her that. Trying hard to contain her excitement.
"Go head, be excited, screw composure." I encouraged her. She hugged the dress and started hopping up and down in a small circle.
"Thank you. I really can’t thank you enough for this." She looked at the dress again before hugging it.
Next dress. Do the black one."
She turned around and I slipped the black one on.
This one had then black straps that held the dress up. It was sexy, hugging my curve like a bodice. Loosely hanging down, a slit ran up the side showing my thigh. The dress was velvet. Beautiful truly.
I cleared my throat signaling for her to turn around.
"Wow, you look, just, oh my goddess." She was grinning seeing me like this. "If I don’t like the red, the black one is it."
"Okay."
She turned back around, and I slipped out of the black dress and into the red.
It was the color of red wine. The sleeves were long and lacy. The lacy neckline stretched in a straight line from shoulder to shoulder. This one also squeezed my chest like a bodice. Clinging to my thighs before loosely flaring out by up knees, with a train that stretch one foot behind the dress.
"Turn around." I invited her.
"That’s the dress."
I felt like it was the dress too.
She sat me down in her chair and helped me style my hair. Curling it first to give my hair wave and volume, and after pinning it into a bun, pulling some strands in the front loose to frame my face. And when she was done, she placed my dark red rose clip in my hair.
"All done."
