Chapter 386: Meeting

Chapter 386: Chapter 386: Meeting

Then, turning her attention back to Alex, she let a smile spread across her face.

"So," she teased lightly, "when are you planning to invite our sister-in-law over?"

Alex’s ears turned red instantly.

He shifted in his seat, trying to appear composed, but his words betrayed his nervousness.

"We haven’t even started dating yet," he muttered.

Aurora’s smile deepened, though her mind was already spinning with plans.

If she could ensure that Alex and Adeline got together quickly, then the chance of Lucas meeting Adeline before their relationship solidified would be small.

She knew from her dreams that Adeline had not been at fault in the past; it was Lucas who had stumbled.

Still, she wanted to be careful.

If Adeline became Alex’s girlfriend, or better yet, his wife, then Lucas’s principles would stop him from ever pursuing her.

She could use her hidden identity as Ms. Dawn, both as Alex’s investor and Adeline’s sponsor, to arrange a meeting.

The only problem was how to connect them naturally.

One was a medical student still in training, the other a CEO managing large projects. Their paths did not cross easily.

At the dinner table, the family chatted while eating, but Aurora’s mind was elsewhere.

She silently listed different ideas, dismissing each one as too forced or too awkward.

Then, as if struck by a flash of light, a clever idea came to her.

After dinner ended and the family scattered into their own rooms, Aurora sat quietly with her phone in her hand.

She opened Spencer’s chat window, as she often did, and typed a message.

She told him she had been studying and that soon she might even gain a sister-in-law. She pressed send and waited.

But there was no reply.

Normally, Spencer called her every morning without fail.

Even if she was busy, he always found a way to make his presence felt.

Today, though... he didn’t even call.

Aurora’s chest felt empty, as though something important was missing.

The emptiness made her restless, and frustration began to rise.

Without thinking too long, she blocked his number.

Why was she reacting like this? Was she too dependent on his care?

She had grown used to his constant concern, and now, without it, she felt as if the ground beneath her feet was unsteady.

Moments later, guilt crept in.

Perhaps Spencer was busy; perhaps he had matters he needed to settle.

She sighed, unblocking him, but forced herself not to check her phone again.

The more she looked, the more disappointment would grow.

Even Diana’s constant taunts lately no longer stung her.

They only sounded like nagging from an aunt trying to draw attention.

Turning away from all of it, Aurora opened Adeline’s chat window.

She typed a short message, asking if they could meet soon.

Within five minutes, Adeline replied.

She agreed to meet but explained she had a practical exam tomorrow.

They shifted the meeting three days forward, and Aurora accepted.

Then Aurora messaged Alex, asking him to be available on the same day.

His reply came quickly. He said he had a very important meeting but could meet afterward.

Aurora frowned slightly.

Once again, fate seemed to create smooth chances for others while she always struggled.

She pressed further, asking when else he might be free.

He answered at once: next Monday.

Aurora confirmed this with Adeline, who agreed she was free that day too.

Finally, Aurora leaned back in her chair, letting out a long breath. The meeting was set.

The next morning, Aurora walked into her classroom as calmly as always.

She was about to walk toward her desk when a voice rang out from the other side of the room.

It was sarcastic, carrying the kind of tone that made everyone around look up.

"Some people are truly unfortunate," the voice said. "The moment they think they can climb a social ladder using their bed skills, the other person breaks up with them."

Aurora stopped in her tracks.

She turned her head slightly, and her eyes found the source.

There was Diana, leaning back in her chair, surrounded by a few of her usual friends.

The smirk on her face was faint, but her eyes were filled with mockery.

Her friends chuckled softly, as if enjoying a private joke at Aurora’s expense.

Aurora raised her eyebrows. She didn’t flare up. Her lips curved into a small, cold smile.

"The school dog always barks the loudest in the morning. Such dogs should be kicked out! Ah! What to do? The dog’s owner owns a part of the school, too!"

The room went quiet. Some from the crowd even wanted to laugh.

Aurora’s roasting skills were too top-notch!

Diana’s smirk faltered, and her face turned red with anger.

But instead of shouting back, she flicked her hair over her shoulder and turned to her friend sitting beside her.

"Some people really think too highly of themselves," she said in a tone just loud enough for Aurora to hear.

"They think they can step across all lines of class and status and insult anyone they like. I wonder if they believe no one will ever harm their family."

Aurora’s eye narrowed, and a glint flashed in her eyes.

She had already found a target to vent her frustration.

"Good dogs don’t try to take silly revenge," she said evenly. "Otherwise, they end up suffering more than they expect."

Diana rolled her eyes and didn’t answer back this time.

But her fingers clenched into fists in her lap.

For months, she had wanted to get back at Aurora by going after her family.

Yet every time she tried to plan something, she found that the Waters family was surrounded by skilled, watchful bodyguards.

No one could get near them. The feeling of helplessness ate at her pride.

Seeing Aurora walk so freely every day made her even more bitter. But for now, she could do nothing.

Once done, Aurora didn’t give her another glance. She simply walked to her seat, where Mia was sitting.

Mia looked distracted, staring at her notebook without really reading.
