a breakthrough to Five-Star Dou Zun, Mo Yu, whose true form was the Nine Profound Golden Thunder Dragon, had grown to rank within the top five of the Thunder Soul Rankings. This trip to the Void Thunder Pool had proven to be a tremendous harvest for him.

Just as Mo Yu reveled in his success, a formless gale erupted from the depths of the thunder pool.

Wherever the gale passed, the terrifying thunderbolts were instantly obliterated.

"What a terrifying gale!"

Feeling its presence, Mo Yu’s hair stood on end.

"Hiss!"

As Mo Yu shuddered, a figure shot out from the obliterated space, looking utterly disheveled.

Behind the figure, over a dozen pitch-black thunderbolts, each as massive as a black dragon, pursued relentlessly.

At the sight of the black thunderbolts, even Mo Yu’s soul trembled violently.

An indescribable sense of danger engulfed him. Faced with this unprecedented crisis, Mo Yu didn’t hesitate—he quickly stored Xiao Jin in his storage ring and bolted toward the edge of the thunder pool.

The disheveled figure being pursued by the black thunderbolts triggered a faint sense of recognition in Mo Yu. A thoughtful look crossed his face.

One thing was clear: neither the figure nor the thunderbolts were to be trifled with.

Despite his mastery over lightning, Mo Yu knew that, given his current strength, even a mere touch from those black thunderbolts would obliterate him. The gap in power was insurmountable.

Mo Yu pushed his speed to the limit, leaving behind afterimages. Were it not for the dense thunder energy in the Void Thunder Pool, he might have torn through space to escape by now.

As Mo Yu fled, the figure behind him seemed to have noticed him.

To Mo Yu’s annoyance, the figure, instead of veering away, began heading straight for him.

"Why does this person’s aura feel so familiar? Like one of the Lei Clan..."

Sensing the terrifying aura rapidly approaching, Mo Yu’s face darkened.

The figure was clearly hoping to team up with him to fend off the black thunderbolts. But the figure had clearly overestimated Mo Yu.

"Friend ahead!"

As Mo Yu sprinted, a voice suddenly rang out from behind. The next moment, a ghostly figure appeared beside him. After a quick glance, the figure exclaimed, "A Five-Star Dou Zun? Are you serious? With your strength, you dare venture into the Void Thunder Pool? Are you kidding me?"

Hearing this, Mo Yu’s expression turned sour. Not only had this person drawn the black thunderbolts, but his tongue was sharp as a blade.

While running, Mo Yu glanced at the figure.

The figure looked quite aged, his white hair disheveled, and his robe torn and tattered, clearly ravaged by thunderbolts.

Despite his wretched appearance, the man exuded a vigorous energy, as though the catastrophic black thunderbolts had barely fazed him.

"A member of the Lei Clan, in the Void Thunder Pool, an old man... Could this be the headmaster of Jia Nan Academy, Mang Tianchi?"

The thought flashed through Mo Yu’s mind.

Although he’d likely identified the old man, Mo Yu wasn’t interested.

The black thunderbolts were drawing closer.

"You’ve got to be kidding me—those things are insanely fast! Fine, kid, I’m out of here!"

Realizing the danger, the old man let out a yelp. With a twist of the space in front of him, he vanished and reappeared a kilometer away.

"Ban Sheng, truly remarkable!"

Seeing Mang Tianchi tear through space within the Void Thunder Pool, Mo Yu was momentarily stunned before letting out a sigh of admiration.

However, his admiration quickly turned to anger as the black thunderbolts shifted their focus to him.

"Damn that old man!"

Cursing under his breath, Mo Yu’s expression darkened. But when his silver eyes landed on the spatial rift left by Mang Tianchi, they lit up.

Though he couldn’t tear through space on his own, he might be able to use the residual spatial energy left by Mang Tianchi to escape.

Without hesitation, Mo Yu summoned the Flash Void Breaking Thunder. With its power, he ripped into the spatial rift.

Boom!

A silvery thunderbolt of void energy surged, distorting the rift until it formed a tunnel just large enough for a person to pass through.

Mo Yu’s face lit up. As the black thunderbolts descended, he dove into the rift, vanishing in an instant.

Whoosh!

Outside the Void Thunder Pool, a slender figure suddenly emerged from the spatial rift. It was Mo Yu.

Escaping the thunder pool, he exhaled deeply. If those black thunderbolts had struck him, the outcome would’ve been grim.

"That old guy must’ve fled too. Such a panicked escape—what a disgrace for a Lei Clan powerhouse."

After calming himself, Mo Yu muttered with a smirk.

"You’ve got to be kidding me! Do you think those things could truly force me into such a state? If I weren’t worried about causing the entire thunder pool to go berserk, I’d have destroyed them already."

Before Mo Yu could finish, a voice rang out beside him.

Looking up, he saw the disheveled old man from earlier, now floating before him, staring him down.

Recalling the old man’s earlier actions, Mo Yu snorted. Though he’d identified Mang Tianchi, he sneered, "Did I say anything wrong about your behavior?"

"Well, kid, I could see you’re talented and knew you’d find a way out. Even if you got stuck, I’d have rescued you. But as I thought, you made it out yourself," the old man said, rubbing his hands and laughing sheepishly.

"Just luck," Mo Yu replied, his lips twitching. He now saw the founder of Jia Nan Academy in a new light.

"By the way, kid, how did you know I’m from the Lei Clan?" Mang Tianchi suddenly asked.

If an elder recognized him, it would’ve been understandable. Even though he’d retired for decades, his reputation still held.

But for a young man like Mo Yu to recognize him was perplexing. Could his fame have spread so widely?

Mo Yu’s eyes flickered before he explained, "I just felt a sense of familiarity in your aura, so I mentioned it."

Upon hearing this, Mang Tianchi paused, then said with some surprise, "I didn’t expect you, kid, to have met someone from the Lei Clan."

Shaking his head, Mang Tianchi continued, "Kid, the creatures deep in this Thunder Pool are quite unique. They’re condensed from the power of lightning and can be directly absorbed. They’re a great resource for cultivation."

He grinned, "Since you seem capable, why don’t we team up and explore the depths?"

Hearing this, Mo Yu raised an eyebrow, his face showing a thoughtful expression before shaking his head.

Although the Thunder creatures were tempting, his current strength was too weak. Even if he took the risk, he wouldn’t gain much. It wasn’t the right time to hunt those creatures yet.

"What’s wrong with young people nowadays? No guts. You’re even less daring than an old man like me," Mang Tianchi muttered lazily, seeing Mo Yu’s interest fade after a moment of consideration.

"However, fate brought us together. My surname is Mang, but I doubt you’d know my name. Of course, it’s impressive that you guessed my Lei Clan origin. Honestly, I had nearly forgotten myself," the old man said with a chuckle.

"Surname Mang?" Mo Yu murmured, pretending to think deeply. Just as he was deciding whether to reveal Mang Tianchi’s identity, a sudden sound interrupted.

"Whoosh!"

A sharp gust came from afar, accompanied by a loud, clear voice: "Mo Yu, are you okay?"

"Huh? Someone from the Ancient Void Dragon clan?" The elder Mang raised an eyebrow upon seeing the approaching figure, then glanced at Mo Yu with curiosity.

It seemed odd for a mere human to be associated with the Ancient Void Dragons.

Moments later, a spark of realization lit up in the elder’s aged eyes. He looked at Mo Yu in surprise, "Were you a student at Jia Nan Academy, from the Mo Clan of the Lei Clan?"

Hearing Mang Tianchi recognize him, Mo Yu’s face changed slightly, a faint, inscrutable emotion flashing through his eyes. He quickly feigned shock and said, "Yes, I studied at Jia Nan Academy. As for my Lei Clan heritage, few know of it. How do you?"

Seeing Mo Yu’s surprised expression, the elder smiled mysteriously and replied, "Since you’ve identified my Lei Clan ties, it’s only natural I recognize your background. But since someone is here for you, I’ll take my leave. You’re doing well, kid, but you’ve got a long way to go. Keep working hard."

He chuckled, adding, "Also, the Lei Clan’s Captain Assessment is about to start. You’d better prepare. I’m looking forward to your performance. Oh, and I’ve met your fiancée, the Lei Clan’s little princess. She’s grown into a stunning beauty. You’re quite lucky; even I’m a little envious."

With those words, Mang Tianchi waved a hand and disappeared in a ripple of space before Mo Yu could respond.

Watching Mang Tianchi’s talkative departure, Mo Yu could only shake his head helplessly before turning to the approaching Hei Qing.

"Finally found you! Thank goodness for the Dragon Seal Lord Dragon Emperor left in you. Otherwise, finding you would’ve been tough," Hei Qing said, breathing a sigh of relief upon seeing Mo Yu unharmed.

"I encountered some trouble in the Thunder Pool, so I came out on my own," Mo Yu smiled, omitting details of the encounter. With a wave of his hand, he added, "My training is about done. Let’s head back."

"Good! I’ve been stuck here so long I’m going stir-crazy." Hei Qing beamed, quickly nodding. His body glowed before transforming into a massive black dragon.

Mo Yu leapt onto Hei Qing’s back. With a dragon’s roar, they shot into the sky like lightning, vanishing in an instant.

Shortly after their departure, the space they had left rippled again, and the elder Mang reappeared.

Staring at the direction they had gone, he murmured, "A mere offshoot of an affiliated clan, yet so extraordinary. How peculiar..."

The elder’s musing voice echoed through the void.

Meanwhile, atop Hei Qing’s enormous form, Mo Yu reflected on Mang Tianchi’s words.

If not for his reminder, Mo Yu might have forgotten about the Lei Clan’s Sentinel Competition. Though he felt gratitude toward Lei Ying, Mo Yu was indifferent about his Lei Clan identity.

But since he owed Lei Ying a favor, and his bloodline was unchangeable, attending the competition was unavoidable.

Calculating the time, Mo Yu realized only two months remained before the event. Once this journey to Ancient Dragon Island was over, he would need to rush to the Lei Clan to participate.

"I wonder how many strong opponents there will be in the Lei Clan’s Captain Assessment..." Lost in thought, Mo Yu murmured.

Given his current strength, unless a competitor reached the Ban Sheng level, defeating him was nearly impossible.

Even within the Lei Clan’s elite Eight Banners Thunder Army, Ban Shengs were rare. Such competitors would likely be few and far between.

"If that’s the case, the championship of this competition will be mine," Mo Yu said calmly, the corners of his lips curving into a faint smile.

His tone was composed, as if stating an inevitable fact.

Indeed, Mo Yu had the confidence and strength to back his words.

Little did he know the storm that would brew within the mighty Lei Clan when a Captain Assessment champion emerged from a declining affiliated clan—a champion who was also the fiancé of Lei Fei’er, their cherished little princess.

For now, Mo Yu’s expression remained as tranquil as ever.
