Chapter 151: Chapter 149: Blaze No More
As the dust cleared, the Blightlord frowned in anger. The attack... had missed Blaze. Even his tendrils were intact.
The cultists were in disbelief. The hammer was an artefact they created after sacrificing hundreds of humans. It was the ultimate weapon, yet there wasn’t a single scratch on Blaze.
"Something is off," the acolyte mumbled, watching the fight from a distance. "The attack was perfect. It’s appropriate to say the zombie disappeared from its spot, rather than dodged the strike."
Those around the acolyte wondered if he had lost his mind. Yes, teleportation existed, but it took time and preparation. No one could disappear and reappear at the same spot within a fraction of a second.
Yet, in the back of their minds, they couldn’t help but think he was correct. Even if Blaze’s tendrils protected him, how come his clothes were intact? The just force of the swing should have ripped those off.
"How are you still alive?!" the Blightlord blurted out.
"Your strength was lacking," Blaze scoffed, unleashing his claws. "Unfortunately for you, the same isn’t applicable to me."
With that, he charged at the hulking figure. Blightlord swung the hammer towards Blaze’s head. The latter ducked down, sliding under the swing.
As the gust of wind swept by, Blaze used his hands to support his weight and unleashed a kick at the Blightlord’s face.
The zombie lord raised the hammer to protect himself. A metallic clink echoed through the barrier as Onyx claws met the hammerhead.
The claws that hadn’t failed before couldn’t cut through the hammer, only leaving scratch marks on it.
"Tsk."
Blaze clicked his tongue before somersaulting off Blightlord’s shoulder to safety.
Despite its size, the Blightlord could wield the hammer perfectly. However, if it hadn’t been for the toxin, Blaze’s strike would have been too fast for the other party to react.
Blightlord and the cultists knew that. Hence, they were surprised, even though they didn’t show it.
The toxin should have rendered Blaze incapable of such movements. Yet he was pulling off acrobatic stunts like he wasn’t infected at all.
Meanwhile, the Blightlord stepped back before charging at Blaze like a mad bull. Instead of horns, the zombie held the hammer in front, attempting to crush Blaze under its weight.
Blaze waited until the last moment before using his tendrils to swing to the side. Blightlord tried changing direction, but his momentum didn’t allow such maneuvers, as he collided against the barrier.
"My lord!"
The cultists screamed as cracks appeared in the barrier.
While they fussed over their lord, Blaze took out two vials and splashed June’s blood on his hand. The jittering stopped for the moment, but Blaze knew he didn’t have much time.
I have to end this.
Just as he was thinking this, the giant hammer shot out of the dust cloud, straight towards him. There was no time to dodge, forcing Blaze to reveal his trump card before everyone.
"He disappeared! You were right!"
"What a strange zombie... no wonder the lord wants his body."
"Good thing we have the barrier up, or else he could have escaped long ago."
The hammer slammed to the ground, and Blightlord appeared from the dust.
He had a thick chain wrapped around his dominant arm that was linked to the hammer. With one jerk, the Blightlord pulled it back into his hand as he looked around for Blaze.
"Where is that coward?" the Blightlord yelled, hoisting the hammer on his shoulder. "You can’t outrun death!"
"Neither can you."
Blaze appeared behind the Blightlord. However, before he could react, the Blightlord was his by Necrophage’s long claws.
The zombie raised his hands to protect his vital areas, but Blaze was aiming for some other spot.
Necrophage ripped through the skin, bones, and muscles in one go. Just like that, Blightlord’s dominant arm was severed.
The hammer-wielding arm fell to the ground with a loud thud, silencing everyone. While everyone was stunned, Blaze re-entered the domain.
"Goddamnit!"
He cursed loudly as the Necrophage began twitching like crazy. The fingers were bent at unnatural angles, and the arm jerked and twisted like someone was wringing it out.
All that because he activated the Necrophage’s ability. With three hits and he’d kill the Blightlord, but how will he do that when one hit crippled him?
He splashed blood on it, but it was of no use. Voss’s words had turned true. He forced Necrophage to feed on June’s flesh. After consuming half of it, the arm finally returned to its normal shape.
Meanwhile, the Blightlord was seething with rage. Blaze should have had a foot in his grave, yet he was giving him so much trouble.
How the hell was it possible?
"We should have waited longer!" he yelled, lifting the hammer with his remaining arm.
Unlike Blaze’s advanced healing, it would take a while for the Blightlord to reattach the arm. With the threat of Blaze reappearing at any moment, he couldn’t waste time on such things.
Just then, Blaze reappeared again, slicing off the Blightlord’s heel, before disappearing again. It all happened in the blink of an eye, and the mighty zombie fell to the ground, unable to stand on his feet.
"Roar!"
Unable to hold on anymore, the Blightlord roared in madness. It wasn’t the roar of an intelligent being, but of a rabid zombie. The Blightlord had lost his mind!
That’s when Blaze appeared again, standing on top of the fallen Blightlord. Necrophage was bent out of shape, but one finger claw was working, and that was enough.
"What did you say?" Blaze asked, raising his arm. "All that preparation, and for what? It was all for this."
As long as Blaze hit the Blightlord again, he was sure to die.
"Remove the barrier!" one cultist roared.
"Protect the lord!"
"Charge!"
The barrier fell. Blaze could sense all the cultists charging towards him. However, he wasn’t focused on them. His eyes were fixed on the Blightlord’s neck.
"Goodbye," he whispered, slicing the Blightlord’s head off.
However, he didn’t get any time to celebrate as a claw ripped through Blaze’s chest.
"That’s what I should say to you."
Blightlord’s voice echoed from behind as he ripped Blaze’s black heart out. The Blightlord’s second body pushed him away.
"You should have gone for the head," Blaze roared, lunging at the second body.
"That’s not how my powers work," the blightlord scoffed, holding Blaze’s heart.
The next second, Blaze’s vision blurred, and he fell to the ground mid-lunge. Something was wrong with his body. His mind was slipping away as darkness filled what was left of his sight.
The last thing he saw was the Blightlord’s smug face as he said...
"Don’t worry, I’ll make good use of your body. Go rot in hell."
