Chapter 365: The little demon and the soul_Part 2
Norah let out a cold, mocking laugh. "Well, unfortunately for you, her soul is a lost cause. There’s nothing you can do to bring her back while I am here. And there’s nothing you can do to send me back into that land."
The only way the owner of the soul could return to her body was if she managed to get away before she perished and became a soul that truly belonged there. In just a few more hours, she would belong there forever. Unless she found a way to break free from the ropes binding her soul down from the land of the dead, there was no escape, and only Norah herself held the power to release her
She had the upper hand here, and no one would ever make her willingly go back there.
"What are we going to do about her, my Lord?" Rav, who had been quiet the whole time, finally asked as he stared at the woman on the bed, smirking smugly at them as if she knew she was in control. If only she wasn’t in the lady’s body, Rav could already imagine what the duke would have done to her by now, with those bulging angry veins on his forehead and the murderous look in his dark eyes. She was only getting away with her arrogance because of the duke’s love for his wife.
"There is only one way to force a stubborn soul out of a vessel that doesn’t belong to them once they take it," Rohan said grimly, all the while ignoring his son’s constant struggling to get down onto the bed. "A witch. If the soul won’t leave by itself, we will need to summon a witch to chase it out and lock it away somewhere."
Norah’s smirk fell immediately at the mention of a witch, who had the power to remove her if the right, powerful one was found. But her arrogance quickly returned. "And where will you find a witch? If I am right, this is Aragonia, and in the three years I have missed from the living world, nothing would have changed, the fact remains that witches are still outcasts, hunted, and burned if found. You won’t be able to find any before sunset, and by then, she will be gone," Norah said arrogantly.
"Ma-mah!" Angel cried out, glaring at his father and then looking longingly at the imposter whose smirk had turned into laughter.
"Yes, son. Come to mama. Tell papa to let mama go," she said, her expression softening into a pitiful look as she spoke to the baby.
Rohan’s suppressed anger began to mount at his son’s relentless fight to get down to the imposter. "She’s not your mama," he said firmly, but Angel turned hard, defiant eyes on him and resumed his struggling to break free.
"Lady Evenly, take him away and keep him until I return with a witch," Rohan ordered as he turned to hand over his son. He had believed that Angel had the ability to see through someone’s soul, but it seemed his baby’s needs for milk were far stronger than his little demon instincts could yet understand. The last thing Rohan wanted, on top of Belle being somewhere he could not reach, was for his son to start bonding with another woman he longed to kill but couldn’t.
He would find a witch. And if luck favored him, he would sense one whose disguise wasn’t strong and could be easily detected before sunset, so Belle’s soul could be sealed back into her body safely.
Evenly hurried forward and reached out to take Angel, but the baby let out a piercing scream and began thrashing violently, hitting and swatting to get down.
"Papa!" he cried in an unusually clear voice, sharper than his usual baby tone and filled with anger. "Mamaaa!" He bared his tiny fangs and sank them into Rohan’s hand, trying to force his father to let him go. But Rohan didn’t, not even a flinch, when his son bit him. He only gritted his teeth in anger at the burning sting of the fangs piercing his flesh, releasing a searing demon venom that the boy had yet to have control over.
Such venom could burn through a human’s skin, but since they were made of the same flesh, Rohan only felt a mild sting.
"Max, get a hold of your temper and go with Evenly," Rohan warned strictly, fighting to keep control and not do something he might regret toward his own son. Angel had not thrown such a tantrum since the day they had been forced to leave the cottage where he had been born.
"How about you let him down and see what he wants, my Lord?" Rav suggested cautiously, not believing the imposter could harm or do anything to the baby while she was tied and surrounded by them.
Rohan didn’t like the idea. He hated to see his son near the imposter. It had always been his favorite thing to watch Belle shower Angel with affection, but now the thought of his son crawling to another woman made his blood boil. Yet, when Angel pulled his fangs out of his flesh at Rav’s suggestion and looked up at him with big, hopeful eyes, Rohan reluctantly, slowly put him down on the bed.
Immediately, the baby crawled toward the woman, who laughed in triumph at the sight of the baby warming up to her and making things easier.
"Hello there, little one," she said, still smiling as Angel crawled up and sat beside her, staring down at her with a hard look too intense for a boy his size. "How are you doing, young one?"
Rohan realized from Angel’s hard look that he hadn’t crawled closer because he truly believed she was his mama. His son was up to something. Rohan’s eyes narrowed as he watched closely.
Angel reached out his small hand and placed it against her head. A faint light began to glow from his palm, catching everyone by surprise, Rohan, Evenly, Rav, and even the imposter herself, who hadn’t expected the touch that suddenly burned her from within.
"Get this little demon away from me!" she cried out as the searing pain consumed her entire body, as if boiling water had been poured beneath her skin.
"Mama..." Angel whispered with a small smile before his body went limp and unconscious beside the screaming woman on the bed.
Rohan moved with lightning speed, scooping his son’s small, cold body into his arms. "Angel?" He shook him gently, trying to wake him, but Angel didn’t move. He was as limp as the dead. If not for his faint heartbeat and soft breathing, all hell would have loss inside Rohan.
The woman on the bed was still screaming. Evenly quickly stuffed a cloth into her mouth to silence her before she could alarm anyone, then turned in worry to the duke who cradled his unconscious son.
"What’s wrong with him? Is he all right?" Evenly asked, her voice tight with concern.
Rohan nodded, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "He has gone to his mother. Angel’s soul has crossed into the other world."
He had never thought his son could have such an ability, but after seeing what Angel had just done, he realized the boy had left a wound inside the imposter’s body that would drive her away once Belle’s soul was found. He just hoped Angel wouldn’t get lost in that place as well. He could not afford to lose the two most important people in his life.
"Be careful, Angel," Rohan whispered into his son’s ear.
