Chapter 721: Chapter 721: Really Can’t Cope

“Thanks for this, Auntie,” Li Lan’s mom said, her eyes brimming with affection as she looked at Jiang Mianmian.

Everyone in the neighborhood liked Jiang Mianmian, the pretty, smart, sensible, dutiful little prodigy.

“Alright, Xiao Su, Mianmian, the dumplings are getting cold. Eat up,” Li Lan’s Mother urged, passing them the dumplings.

“Thank you, sister-in-law. Just a couple of days ago I was saying I wanted to make some dumplings myself. I was just too lazy to do it, and now here you are delivering them,” Su Wanyu took them without further refusal and placed them on the dining table.

Su Wanyu knew Li Lan’s mom was only bringing the dumplings because she felt a bit awkward always having Li Lan come over to study.

She understood the motherly instinct to do anything for one’s child; accepting the dumplings would put her at ease.

“Ha ha, otherwise, how can we say that our families are fated to be so close? Alright, I won’t disturb your meal anymore. I’ll bring Lanlan over after you’ve finished eating,” Li Lan’s mom said.

After Li Lan’s mom left, the family of three happily started eating the dumplings.

Jiang Changhai picked one up, took a bite, and contentedly said, “Wife, daughter, these dumplings are pure meat, not a hint of veggies in them.”

“Really? Li Lan’s mom really knows how to present herself,” Su Wanyu remarked, touched.

The meat and flour weren’t cheap, and they had given their family two whole platters.

After breakfast, both Jiang Changhai and Su Wanyu had to go to work.

While changing her shoes, Su Wanyu asked, “Sweetheart, are you going to have lunch with your dad at the transport company, or will you come to my workplace?”

As soon as Jiang Mianmian heard her mom ask, she didn’t think twice and made her choice, “Mom, I’ll go to the transport company and have lunch with dad.”

Jiang Mianmian was truly fed up with the overly enthusiastic aunties at the town government office. The last two times she went there with her mom, the aunties swarmed around her as soon as they saw her.

And these aunties, instead of just talking, would try to pinch her cheeks and arms after every few words, showing a keen interest in her studies.

She really couldn’t handle it!

Su Wanyu saw her daughter’s aversion to their workplace and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

She realized her colleagues were overly enthusiastic and had scared her daughter, but it was their way of expressing affection.

Still, Su Wanyu didn’t force Jiang Mianmian to go if she didn’t want to.

After all, she needed to read foreign newspapers and take notes at noon every day. If Jiang Mianmian came, she’d have to be distracted to look after her.

“Okay, then go to the transport company for lunch,” Su Wanyu instructed.

Jiang Changhai was very happy for his daughter to visit the transport company. His coworkers were always envious when they saw his sweet, soft daughter, which made him very proud.

“Right, sweetheart, come find dad and I’ll buy you something tasty,” Jiang Changhai said, giving Jiang Mianmian a knowing look.

Their little exchange didn’t escape Su Wanyu’s sharp eyes, and she coughed lightly, “Brother Hai, at noon, you’re only allowed to give Mianmian one ice cream. Don’t let her have more, and she should also cut back on cold drinks.”

Jiang Mianmian had been planning to treat herself to an extra ice cream at lunch, but her plan was thwarted by her mom’s preemption.

It seemed she really couldn’t escape her mom’s Five Fingers Mountain.

“Wife, don’t worry, I’m not one of those parents who spoils their kids,” Jiang Changhai said, straightening his back and patting his chest with more bravado than belief.
