Chapter 735: Chapter 733: It’s Really a Treat
Su Wanting listened but wore a skeptical look, “A leader from Capital City? Which leader might that be?”
Su Wanyu slightly raised her eyebrows, a proud look on her face, and said, “That’s confidential, I can’t tell.”
Seeing her cousin’s secretive demeanor only made Su Wanting more certain that her younger cousin’s old habits of showing off and bragging were acting up again.
She took it that her cousin was making up stories to save face, just lying to deceive people.
She glanced at her but didn’t press for more questions.
Su Wanyu knew all too well what that look from her cousin meant; she had seen it directed at herself countless times when she was a child.
Seeing her cousin thinking she was bragging, Su Wanyu felt unjustly wronged—this was actually true, it was a letter from the comrade to her daughter!
She really wanted to pull out a photo of her daughter with the chairman to show them and let them see just how accomplished and capable her own daughter was.
But thinking of the potential repercussions stopped her from doing so.
Su Wanyu looked longingly at Jiang Mianmian, who was surrounded by Uncle and his wife, feeling a bit resentful.
Jiang Mianmian noticed her mother’s look and felt utterly confused—had she done something wrong just now?
Su Wanting couldn’t be bothered with her cousin who loved to exaggerate. She settled onto the sofa and looked warmly at the fair and delicate Jiang Mianmian, asking, “Mianmian, you’re starting ninth grade soon, right? How about your aunt gives you a few ninth-grade questions to see if you can answer them? Would that be alright?”
“Sure, Aunt, please go ahead with the questions.”
Jiang Mianmian had already learned from her mother that her aunt was a Chinese teacher and headteacher at Haicheng No. 1 Middle School, so she wasn’t surprised to hear that she wanted to test her.
“Then listen carefully…” Su Wanting started with a few poems that were compulsory for ninth graders to memorize. She recited a line, then let Jiang Mianmian continue.
At first, she picked the simple, catchy poems and found that Jiang Mianmian had no trouble with those, so she switched to more difficult ones with complex structures and rare characters.
No matter how tough the poems were, Jiang Mianmian could respond fluidly and smoothly without mispronouncing a single rare character, which surprised Su Wanting.
Moreover, Jiang Mianmian’s voice was crisp, and her enunciation clear, listening to her recite poetry was indeed a pleasure.
Seeing how proficient Jiang Mianmian was at reciting poetry, Su Wanting paused, then began to ask her classic math problems.
After all, a strong memory doesn’t necessarily mean one is smart.
When she couldn’t stump her with those, she started asking about physics, and without realizing it, went beyond the curriculum.
But no matter what she asked, Jiang Mianmian was able to answer quickly and accurately.
Su Wanting was shocked, “Mianmian, aren’t you starting ninth grade next semester? How come you can answer all these ninth-grade questions now?”
Jiang Mianmian replied with calm composure, “Aunt, I’ve always had a habit of reviewing in advance. School is about to start, so I reviewed some of the material ahead of time.”
“Just by reviewing, you were able to learn so much?” Su Wanting was even more astonished upon hearing Jiang Mianmian’s explanation.
This child was really smart!
Although she knew that being in ninth grade at ten was something only a genius could achieve,
to have understood the contents of Chinese, mathematics, and physics for the upcoming semester after just a quick review, the child’s self-study and comprehension skills were just too strong.
Although the Su family members couldn’t understand their conversation, seeing Su Wanting’s reaction made them realize that Jiang Mianmian’s performance must indicate great intelligence and talent.
