Chapter 401 - 400: Medicine

Chapter 401: Chapter 400: Medicine

But Lin Wan still felt intense chest pain and suffocation, as long as she inhaled sharply, it hurt terribly.

The doctor said that hitting the spot near the heart could cause such a reaction, but it would get better after a while. To be safe, the doctor advised Lin Wan to stay in the hospital for a day to observe her condition.

....

"Well done, this is your due, take it and hide for a while." In an unremarkable alley, Ye Qing handed two large bills to the girl who had just appeared on South Street.

The girl took the money, said nothing, nodded, glanced around, and left cautiously.

Ye Qing watched the woman’s back, the light in his eyes slowly dissipating.

Unexpectedly, Mei Langchi actually wanted to harm Han Yi’s child. Also unexpected was that Han Yi turned out to be Mei Langchi’s half-brother.

Mei Langchi must have seen her hatred towards Lin Wan’s family and used this against her.

First, he helped her restore her school registration, then bought back the house she was renting from Yang Erni.

He did all this just to get her to help him with his schemes.

But this was fine too, as their interests aligned, and she also gained a lot of benefits.

But Mei Langchi thought too simply; what she wanted was never these things.

"Mr. Mei, today that was a success, I heard Lin Wan is now hospitalized," Ye Qing said when he returned home and found Mei Langchi.

But who knew Mei Langchi wasn’t happy, "Can you confirm if the child was lost?"

"This... I have no one in the hospital, so I don’t know the situation."

"Do you know which hospital?"

"S City Central Hospital."

Mei Langchi nodded, "Hmm, I have some errands to run, heading out now and might not be back tonight."

Ye Qing clearly understood what Mei Langchi was planning to do, knowing someone would deal with the troublesome people for her, she was naturally pleased.

"Mr. Mei, it’s cold outside. Recently, I noticed you didn’t have cotton shoes, so I made a pair overnight just for you. They might not look good, but they’ll keep you warm. Mr. Mei, please don’t dislike them."

Mei Langchi was slightly taken aback; in all his years, no one had ever made shoes for him by hand.

His mom was a lady from a rich household, and those things were made by servants, later bought from the supply and marketing stores.

His wife was a soldier, pampered since little, and had never learned these things, not to mention after she joined the military, she had no time.

As Ye Qing spoke, she quickly pulled Mei Langchi to sit down, "Try them on. If they don’t fit, I’ll make another pair for you."

Mei Langchi said nothing, glanced up at Ye Qing, and nodded slightly. He took off his leather shoes and wore the soft and warm cotton shoes.

"Hmm, they fit well. Thank you, Comrade Ye."

"It’s the least I can do. The director asked me to take care of you, of course, I wouldn’t neglect that. Mr. Mei, go on ahead. The roads are slippery; be careful on the way."

Ye Qing’s words sounded like a wife advising a husband about to leave home.

Lin Wan felt particularly unlucky these days, having been knocked down three times in a row.

Each time brought more anger, and this time she even ended up hospitalized. Though staying in the hospital, they wouldn’t administer medicine, so she could only lie idly on the hospital bed.

"Luckily nothing serious happened. If something had happened to you, how would I explain it to Xiao Yi?" Liang Hongmei regretted bitterly, thinking she shouldn’t have taken her daughter out today.

No one expected such an incident.

"Mom, it’s nothing. I’m feeling much better now. You’ve been busy for half the day, go have something to eat, I’m fine."

"Yeah, it’s already past noon. I’ll check in the cafeteria to see if there’s anything to eat, and I’ll bring some back."

"Okay."

Lin Wan stayed there for a day and a night; at night, she was worried that her brother would return home and not find her and her mom, so she sent her mom home in the evening. She also asked her to keep this incident from her brother to avoid worrying him. After all, it wasn’t a big deal.

Lin Wan slept peacefully in the hospital that night, and early the next morning, her mom came back.

During the doctor’s morning reexamination, he said she was fine and they could go through the discharge procedures to leave.

"Mom, the doctor said I’m fine, which means I can get up. No need to support me so cautiously. I’ll wait for you here; quickly go and handle the discharge formalities. I can’t wait to go home; the hospital smell isn’t pleasant."

"Alright, I’ll go handle the procedures. You wait for me here, and don’t wander around, okay?"

"Yes."

Shortly after Liang Hongmei went out, a young nurse entered the ward. "Is this Lin Wan?"

"Yes."

"These are your medications. It’s written how to take them—three times a day for a week. You mustn’t skip a day." The young nurse wore a mask, her tone cold and unpleasant.

Lin Wan looked at the medicine handed to her and asked in confusion, "Nurse, the doctor just said I didn’t need to take medicine. Why am I suddenly given so much medication?"

"The director prescribed it for you. How would I know? The medicine was prescribed to ensure you’re fully recovered, to consolidate it. What... can’t afford it?" The nurse’s words carried some scorn.

Lin Wan furrowed her brow, "I didn’t mean that, I’m just a bit puzzled. A sudden prescription, can’t I ask?"

The nurse glanced at her dismissively and left. Lin Wan grumbled inwardly, what a person.

"Mom, the doctor prescribed medicine again. Did you pay for it?" Lin Wan asked when Liang Hongmei returned. "Prescribed medicine? Didn’t the doctor say you’re pregnant and shouldn’t take medicine? Why was medicine suddenly prescribed? Let me take a look." Liang Hongmei examined the medicine, wrapped in plain white paper, revealing no identity. "To be safe, I’ll go ask the doctor."

"Mom, I’ll go with you, and after we ask, we can leave together."

The mother and daughter went to the doctor’s office. The doctor had just returned from his rounds and was surprised to see them again. "Any more questions?"

"Doctor, we’re confused. During the ward round, you said no medication was needed, but when I handled the discharge, a nurse gave us a pack of medicine saying you prescribed it."

The doctor was puzzled, "I didn’t prescribe any medication for you."

"Ah..." The mother and daughter exchanged glances, looking at the medicine in their hands. "And this is?"

"Let me see." The doctor was cautious.

Looking at the medicine, he instantly knew these weren’t his prescriptions. Doctors prescribed whole packages, not wrapped in paper.

Opening one, the doctor was stunned. The contents included antibiotics, the worst medicine for pregnant women, not to mention hormonal drugs. Alarmingly, there was a strong laxative amongst them.

For a pregnant woman, these pills were nothing less than poison.

"Who gave you these? Did you see her face?" The doctor’s expression darkened.

"I didn’t see her face. She wore a mask when she came in."

This incident was serious to the doctor. Wrong medication could be lethal, especially using his name to prescribe.

This was intolerable.

The doctor immediately reported to the hospital management and made Lin Wan look at every nurse in their department. Lin Wan shook her head repeatedly; she didn’t recognize the nurse’s voice who gave her the medicine.

Luckily this incident hadn’t turned into a tragedy, but it was the hospital’s negligence, so they waived their hospitalization fees as compensation.

This unresolved matter made Liang Hongmei feel frustrated. She believed it was because other doctors were jealous of their doctor, making them victims in this.

But Lin Wan didn’t think so. Given the recent incidents, she felt someone was deliberately targeting her.

Yet she couldn’t think of who wanted to harm her.

Since coming to S City these few years, she hadn’t made enemies with anyone. Except for Ye Qing’s grudge, she couldn’t think of anyone who wanted to harm her this way.

Seems she’d have to investigate Ye Qing. See if she’s involved.

After returning from the hospital, Lin Wan rested at home for a few days. Initially, deep breathing still hurt her chest, but with some recuperation, she felt much better.

Su Ling even made a boring phone call during this time.

"Xiao Wan, I’ve been staying home every day and not going to work. I’m so bored."

"Staying home is warm, with food and drink provided. Yet you find it boring?"

"What’s so good about it, I’d rather go out in the cold and work. Hey, since I can move around, why don’t we go visit Pei Bai? She should be home now. How about it?"

Lin Wan thought about it. She’d been cooped up at home for days. If she didn’t move around soon, she’d become moldy.

Besides, she needed to find Ye Qing’s residence, but her mom said she hadn’t seen Ye Qing at the shop recently.

She couldn’t sit and wait for death; she’d have to find it herself.
