Chapter 1570: Chapter 1577: Dragon-Phoenix Triplets (6)
“Hmm, Marquis, this is a good idea. The phoenix golden-scaled fish looks so good; the Empress Dowager will surely love it!”
The husband and wife finalized their plan and laid down to rest, saying no more.
In Bishui Villa
Huo Yuan had already received news that Cai Wei had given birth to dragon-phoenix triplets. After a moment of disappointment, he felt relieved.
Although this lifetime was destined to keep him from being with her, knowing that she was happy and joyful put his heart at ease.
Loving her didn’t necessarily mean being with her. Quietly waiting by her side, watching her live happily—isn’t that a kind of joy in itself?
“Young Master, everything is packed. You should rest early; tomorrow you’ll need to rise early to hit the road!” Sui Xi nagged while heading over to Huo Yuan’s couch to lay out the bedding.
“Understood, leave now!”
Huo Yuan waved his hand, signaling him to leave. Tomorrow, he would lead the brothers of Ci Yue Gang to relocate to Qing Luo Kingdom and establish themselves there. In truth, with his fortune, he no longer needed to earn more. He could live a lifetime, reclining and leisurely, without worry.
However, Situ Changge, or rather, Wanyan Jingchen—the second-in-command of Ci Yue Gang—still had weak foundations in Qing Luo Kingdom. They needed to support him in solidifying his position to guard against scheming individuals.
Furthermore, he hoped that a change of environment might help him forget the person he couldn’t let go of in his heart and allow him to start anew…
…
Cai Wei woke up from her deep sleep to find it already broad daylight. Upon opening her eyes, she felt an oppressive swelling pain in her chest.
“Chun Liu, Xiao Zhi!”
She called out, and Chun Liu and Xiao Zhi hurried inside, bowing respectfully. “What does Your Highness command?”
Cai Wei asked, “Where is His Majesty? And where are the children?”
Xiao Zhi replied, “Reporting to Your Highness: His Majesty has gone to court. He feared the young princes might disturb your rest, so he instructed the nannies to carry them to the side hall to soothe them.”
Cai Wei got out of bed and ordered, “Bring the children back—I’ll personally feed them milk.”
As Nangong Yi returned from court, he saw that Cai Wei and the children were awake. Cai Wei’s garments were disheveled, her clothing slightly open, holding one of her swaddled babies in her arms while an old palace maid guided her in nursing the child.
It was her first time doing so, and her posture was stiff. Sweat dotted her forehead as she looked at the old maid in a mixture of anxiety and helplessness.
Seeing Nangong Yi enter, Cai Wei felt slightly embarrassed and instinctively tried to cover her collar. But given her chest was so swollen from the milk, it was impossible to conceal. Just as she awkwardly hesitated, the child suddenly released the nipple and started crying loudly.
As soon as Cai Wei saw the baby crying, she forgot everything else, cradling the child while gently patting him, casting a pleading glance toward the maid. “What’s wrong with him? What should I do? Did he wet himself?”
The old maid quickly motioned for the wet nurse to come forward and examine the child. Seeing his little butt completely dry, she said, “The young prince is probably frustrated from not being able to get any milk.”
Upon hearing this, Cai Wei grew even more anxious. “Then let him keep trying—the milk has obviously started to come in.”
The old maid explained, “It must be because the mammary gland hasn’t cleared yet. Perhaps…”
She leaned in close to Cai Wei’s ear and whispered a few words. Cai Wei froze momentarily, then her face flushed red, though she bit her lip and shyly nodded.
The child was taken outside by the wet nurse to be fed, and the old maid walked up to Nangong Yi, bowed respectfully, and whispered something to him. Upon hearing her words, Nangong Yi’s beautiful eyes lit up with sudden excitement, as if struck with surprise and delight at his unexpected timing, realizing he’d returned just in time for such an intimate moment.
