Chapter 436: Love and Lies

Chapter 436: Love and Lies

The scene was eerie and unsettling.

It scared Wen Jing. Ye Feimo stood in the silent darkness, holding a large bouquet of red roses. For some reason, one of the two streetlights was broken, and only one was on, casting a dim, blurry light.

Lightning split the dark sky. The combination of white, black, and red was terrifying and bizarre on such a stormy night. He stood in the pouring rain, holding the flowers, like a demon that had come to take her soul.

The light flickered, and the thunder and lightning made the atmosphere even more grim.

Wen Jing ran out of her room. Wen Nuan was about to go back to her room when Wen Jing frantically called out to her, "Sister, come and look outside. It’s brother-in-law..."

Wen Nuan’s and Wen Jing’s rooms were connected. Both their windows looked outside. When Wen Nuan heard that, her heart jumped into her throat. He was standing in the rain, calling her on a night like this?

What if something happened?

She rushed to her window and looked down, but he was gone. She could only vaguely see a bouquet of roses on the ground, being trampled by the rain. Wen Nuan’s heart turned cold. Wen Jing exclaimed, "Brother-in-law left? I saw him just now."

Wen Nuan went out with an umbrella. The rain was heavy, and her vision was blurry. She couldn’t see anything clearly. Wen Nuan looked at the red roses that were being beaten by the rain and started to cry.

It was Feimo.

He had just been here. He really had.

Wen Nuan’s hand trembled slightly. The umbrella fell to the ground. The rain poured down on her mercilessly. It was so cold. Lightning and thunder roared. The rain was icy. *Feimo, is this how you felt standing out there?*

*Helpless, vulnerable, desperately needing a hug, but being pushed away so cruelly.*

*Did you also feel this despair?*

Wen Nuan slowly crouched down, holding herself tightly. She looked at the roses on the ground, tears streaming down her face.

She wasn’t worthy of Feimo’s roses.

Not worthy!

Wen Jing anxiously came out with an umbrella and tried to help her back inside. But Wen Nuan shook her head and refused to be sheltered from the rain. She wanted to feel what it was like for Feimo to wait and despair in the heavy rain. Even though there was no such thing as truly understanding another’s pain.

She still wanted to feel what he was feeling, even just a little.

The next day, Wen Nuan was sick.

She had a high fever. Her body was ice cold. She shivered under the covers. Her parents weren’t home. Wen Jing went to get her up for lunch and found that she had a fever and was unconscious. She frantically called Fang Liucheng, and together, they took Wen Nuan to the hospital.

Fang Liucheng asked for all the details, and Wen Jing didn’t hide anything. Fang Liucheng’s heart ached, and he felt guilty, but mostly he felt helpless.

He had thought that Wen Nuan wanted to get a divorce because of the scandal and the baby. Wen Nuan had always told him that she didn’t care about it, but seeing the way things were between Wen Nuan and Ye Feimo made him feel very uncomfortable and sad.

Wen Nuan woke up in the late afternoon. Wen Jing and Fang Liucheng were at the hospital with her. Her fever had gone down, but her throat was very sore, and she coughed nonstop. Her head was dizzy. A little while after she woke up, Wen Nuan had a little porridge and fell back asleep.

She woke up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. She didn’t sleep well but didn’t want to wake up. Her parents came to see her, but Wen Nuan was barely aware. In her dream, she was constantly tormented by a blood-stained butterfly. In her dream, her cries were shrill and repetitive. She was lost in pain and couldn’t find a way out.

Then, she dreamed of Ye Feimo.

Ye Feimo stood mercilessly in the thunderstorm, looking at her coldly. He raised his hand, and a divorce agreement flew at her face. Ye Feimo said woodenly, "You want a divorce? I’ll grant you one... A woman like you isn’t worthy of my love."

In the dream, Ye Feimo’s heartless eyes suffocated her. Wen Nuan woke up even though she didn’t want to. Only then did she realize that even in a dream, you could feel so much pain that you would wake up.

*Feimo...*

*Feimo...*

When she woke up, it was almost dawn. There was no one in the room. Wen Nuan was thirsty. She got up and poured herself some water. She couldn’t sleep after that and just stayed awake until morning.

Fang Liucheng had kept her hospitalization a secret from the media.

At this point, she couldn’t care less about the media.

When it was light, her mother came to see her. They talked for a while, and then her mother went to prepare her lunch. Tang Mandong and Chen Xueru came together to see her but didn’t stay long. At noon, Ye Feimo came.

When he arrived, Fang Liucheng was in the room with her. Fang Liucheng saw that she was in a bad mood and tried to cheer her up by telling her some funny stories from her middle school days. Wen Nuan had no idea that Fang Liucheng knew so much about her, even the small details.

He also talked about a few friends they both knew. One of her former seniors, who was also Fang Liucheng’s classmate, was now married. His wife was Wen Nuan’s classmate from middle school. Wen Nuan felt that life was very strange.

Fate was a very strange thing.

"They would have never thought that we’d be in this situation today," Wen Nuan said with a smile. As she said that, Ye Feimo stood in the doorway, looking at them coldly. Wen Nuan felt a chill from the bottom of her feet to her heart.

Fang Liucheng saw him and made an excuse to get her some hot water, leaving the room to give the couple some space.

Ye Feimo came in. Wen Nuan glanced at him and then lowered her head. She was afraid that if she looked at him for too long, he would see the pain in her heart and her true intentions. Ye Feimo was a very sensitive person.

No matter how good her acting was, it was nothing in front of him.

"Is the curse the reason you’re so heartless and determined to leave me?" Ye Feimo asked in a low voice. He had already noticed that Wen Nuan had been acting strangely. He should have realized that she went to Athens because of the curse. She wanted to leave him, most likely because of the curse.

But his emotions were so affected by her that he had overlooked some obvious things.

Wen Nuan composed herself and gave a small laugh. "Ye Feimo, I’ve wanted a divorce since I miscarried the baby. I’ve wanted a divorce since you said I wasn’t as good as Han Bi. This has nothing to do with the curse. Do you really think I’m that superstitious and believe in something so baseless? This is a time of science. Who would believe in a curse? I’m just very tired of this marriage. Aren’t you tired?"

"I’m tired too," Ye Feimo said woodenly, as if he were back at the beginning of their relationship. He said, "I’m also tired, but I’m willing to be. Wen Nuan, do you understand my willingness?"

She understood. How could she not?

She was tired, but she was also willing to be. How could she not understand?

But what did understanding matter? She wished she didn’t.
