Chapter 744: Chapter 116: Being Arranged
Everyone ultimately did not flee.
After all, if they were to run away, who knows what might happen next.
At least from the perspective of the half-elves, the people of The Azure Longsword were fleeing because they had committed murder, and as for why they killed, there were, of course, many excuses that could be fabricated, especially when the murderers had already fled.
As for Sigrdrifa’s suggestion, it was naturally ignored by everyone. In the end, it was Medea who managed to control the rioting crowd by shooting out a great number of Mind Lines.
Afterwards, the relieved public security officers invited the members of The Azure Longsword to the Royal Court for tea,
Incidentally discussing the investigation of the murder case.
In ordinary times, this would probably just be a criminal case, but the suspected felon was a human mercenary who had come from outside to deliver a message, representing the face of the Bull Mercenary Group, and so the matter escalated from a criminal case to a political incident.
After all, even in the Royal City Ailola, the political disagreement between Her Majesty the Queen and Elder Delar was already an open secret.
About 6 hours later, everyone arrived at the half-elf Royal City Ailola.
Though it was a royal city, it looked more or less like the villages in the outside world, surrounded by simple wooden walls, which left the ladies somewhat speechless.
Ah, this is it?
As the public security officers led everyone into the city, it became clear that it really was just a slightly larger village, with an estimated population of at most 3,000 people based on the street traffic and total area.
However, there were indeed many Transcendents here. A rough count showed that, on average, two out of every ten passersby possessed Spirituality, about 20%. In the human towns of the outside world, this number might only be a fraction of a percent.
Yet, this triggered another unfavorable matter—that although most of the half-elves people had encountered so far were ordinary people armed with firearms, given such a high prevalence of extraordinary power, these half-elves were probably not ignorant of Extraordinary Power.
Thus, when Medea controlled the surrounding crowd earlier with Mind Lines, the public security officers might have been able to see through it.
As everyone continued towards the Royal Palace, more and more half-elves lined the streets to watch, but their gazes towards the group were no longer curious as if looking at monkeys, like those in the previous village, but mixed with a complex and difficult-to-understand resentment, suspicion, and disgust.
Or, to put it more simply, discrimination.
Arriving at the steps of the Royal Palace, the public security officers did not lead everyone straight in, but took a detour to the underground prison of Royal City Ailola.
“Please wait inside until the investigation results come out,” the half-elves said expressionlessly.
They dared to say this, of course, because they had the backing to do so—the Prison Director guarding the prison was a half-elf of the Elf Clan.
“A Law Level Transcendent?” The half-demigod was an old man with a white beard, wearing a helmet made from a deer’s skull, looking at the people being brought in, “All humans?”
“They claim to be messengers of the Bull Mercenary Group, currently involved in a murder case, so we can only temporarily detain them here,” the public security officers replied respectfully.
“Involved in a murder… heh,” chuckled the antlered demigod, not asking further, and pointed towards the end of the corridor, “The largest one on the right hand side, then.”
“That one?” The public security officers were puzzled because that cell was for noble prisoners, and therefore had better conditions.
However, after taking a look at Miel’s appearance, they seemed to realize something and fell silent.
“Hold on,” Aske said, “I have a letter from the Great Captain of the Bull Mercenary Group for Her Majesty the Queen that needs to be delivered before your investigation results are in.”
“I can deliver it for you,” the public security officer did not speak, but the antlered demigod did, “But, you surely wouldn’t trust me, right?”
“Of course,” Aske nodded. “This letter must be personally delivered to Your Majesty.”
“Then forget it,” the antlered demigod waved his hand, signaling them to enter.
And so the members of The Azure Longsword entered the prison cell. The reason they were so compliant was that they had no desire to start a conflict with the half-elf, considering they were there to deliver a letter.
It seemed the half-elves realized this, too, so they neither clapped them in irons nor demanded their weapons, and even prepared the best cell for them…
Despite being a cell, the conditions weren’t much different from the treehouse they had stayed in the previous night, complete with a 2-meter-long bed, a vanity, bookshelves, and wardrobe, there was even a private toilet.
While the girls were using their spirituality to inspect the cell, the bored antlered demigod came over and asked Aske,
“They say you were involved in a murder. So, did you do it?”
“No,” Aske denied.
“But the victim was a half-elf, right?” the demigod asked again.
“Yes,” This time Aske answered more straightforwardly.
“So you weren’t drawn into a murder case, you were just used as a catalyst to stir up public opinion,” the antlered demigod sighed deeply. “Keep the letter safe for now. Her Majesty the Queen… probably won’t see you anytime soon.”
“Why?” Aske asked.
“Because the opponent has made their move,” the antlered demigod replied. “Of course, Her Majesty Maya won’t proceed to their rhythm but needs to take quick action instead.”
“Maya?” Aske felt the name was somewhat familiar, but it was Thira beside him who remembered immediately.
Wasn’t that one of the three demigods Miel knew? So, she was the ruling Half-Elf Queen of this place?
This thought spun through Thira’s mind, and she could not help but laugh bitterly.
A queen? She’s just ruling a somewhat larger village at best, maybe akin to a village head with a baron’s rank.
As if sensing her skepticism, the antlered demigod explained,
“Her Majesty the Queen is also of Demigod Rank, so you don’t have to worry about this matter. Just stay here peacefully and wait for your release. But if you rashly attempt to escape, even Her Majesty the Queen will have a headache, understand?”
He turned and leisurely walked away, and Aske watched his back until he was gone before turning to speak,
“Didn’t expect this to be so troublesome. Oh well, let’s stick to our usual routine for now, and we can talk when that Majesty seeks us out.”
By now, everyone had checked around and found no arrays that limited extraordinary powers, nor any technological devices for surveillance.
In other words, this tiny prison was definitely no match for The Azure Longsword. With Mia present, they could make a getaway at any moment, so the girls showed no signs of worry or fear on their faces. Silently, they teleported back to Fire Island and continued with the Acceleration Plan.
Aske, however, sat at the edge of the bed, sorting through the events from morning to the present and, combining them with the words of the antlered demigod, he had a rough idea of what was actually happening.
Indeed, as the demigod said, they were not embroiled in murder.
Or rather, the mastermind behind this was not looking to cause The Azure Longsword and their group troubles but was using their human identity to create trouble for the Queen.
In that case, they definitely couldn’t leave the prison on their own volition.
What a hassle.
