Chapter 596: +Chapter 596+
"There was no time to ask," Davian spoke up as they kept pace with Jael in front of them, "Asher didn’t recognize us at all, doesn’t this state put Caspian in danger?"
"You think he wouldn’t recognize his mate?" Nikolai blew out a cloud of smoke out the open window.
Davian could see that Jael had his hands full, not just with Asher but also with the Mafia King’s absent father. "I’m not taking any chances." He muttered, taking out his phone.
The Omega picked up on a dime, "Is Lake okay?"
Davian had no plans when he called Caspian, he was grateful that the other was such good friends with his mate, because it provided him with the right thing to say.
He had a feeling that telling Caspian the truth would only prompt the Omega to want to see his mate.
"Lake is a little out of it today, and I have to attend to something important. Do you think you could pay him a quick visit?" He said only half-truths.
Caspian didn’t stay to ask the questions he was sure he had; the Omega hastily hung up after hurried goodbyes.
Nikolai said nothing to this, their car pulling into a surprisingly quiet parking lot after Jael.
"Did Asher chase the rest of the thugs off?" Nikolai noted curiously, stepping out of the car.
Jael, on the other hand, was already privy to what was going on inside. The cheap thugs who had been shooting up the place and making a general nuisance of themselves suddenly calmed down and demanded that they wanted to face Mafia King Asher.
He glanced over at Asher, who was already gunning for the front doors of the club with a laser focus in his eyes, hoping that this session of massacre would be enough to snap Asher out of it.
He had already given the order for the men to make themselves scarce, knowing that the only person coming out of the club alive would be his Mafia King.
It was strange that the thugs suddenly had an objective; it meant that information was being shared among the four groups that had stormed the four different clubs.
His attention was split between trying to figure the situation out and worrying about Asher’s safety. It didn’t matter if Jael had seen the Mafia King bend steel with his bare hands, he would always be worried.
Mafia King Nikolai and Mafia King Davian walked over, their tense expression matching his.
Jael right away told them about the minute but odd change of the previously headless group of thugs suddenly acting under strange orders.
"No doubt the High Council." Nikolai said the unspoken words on the mind of everyone else, his cigar miraculously gone.
"They’re probably trying to gauge Asher’s true strength," Davian went on. "Which seems to be the original intention of the attacks, but they definitely didn’t expect him to be the one to single-handedly take them out."
Jael couldn’t focus on the conversation, nearly grinding his teeth flat as his attention kept drifting to the entrance of the club.
Nikolai started forward first, "I’m going to see what the fuck is going on for myself." He grumbled, his worry hidden underneath gruff words.
That was enough to prompt the other two to keep pace with him. The three of them got to the glass sliding doors just as a thug ran towards them, face bloody, eyes bulging in unsettling terror.
His reaching hand couldn’t even make contact with the thick, reinforced glass doors before Asher practically appeared behind him.
There was more blood splashed on the Mafia King, his eyes bubbled and spat like lava, his usually bright eyes now murky, empty. He caught the thug casually with a spread palm over the top of his head, fingers placed on his crown.
The expression of the three spectators on the other side flinched minutely when Asher’s fingers dug easily into the skull of the thug, blood and brain matter spilling down his anguished face.
There was nothing on Asher’s face as he studied them, but there was a hint of a searching expression when his eyes settled on Jael. It was only for a moment though, the Alpha spinning around on a dime to return to the club proper, gold and black fur coat swirling like the chaos in his eyes.
Davian glanced at Nikolai, "Still curious?"
Nikolai’s worry was plain to see now, "Is he just going to keep going until he drops? He’s not a fucking machine."
Jael looked like he would really like to go into the club, he wouldn’t be able to do much, but he would be able to keep an eye on his Mafia King.
"Fuck." He cursed, hands in his hair, it was a torn sound.
In a bid to possibly distract him, Davian told him about Caspian. The Beta just nodded numbly, glancing at his phone like he wanted to call Caspian. But it didn’t seem like he wanted to check up on the other, it was more like he was seeking comfort.

Caspian was already in a car with Keith and Peter shortly after he got off the call with Davian. The Mafia King sounded calm, so he knew that Lake was certainly fine, he was just worried.
He lifted his phone for the umpteenth time, wondering if he should call, but he stopped himself again. It would be better if he showed up in person, a little surprise visit never hurt anyone.
The journey was quick, but it didn’t feel that way to Caspian, who was antsy the entire way there.
He was easily let in by Davian’s men. Keith and Peter staying out while he went in alone. Caspian already knew Lake’s room, so he quickly made his way there, knocking gently despite his trepidation.
Inside the room, Lake and Angelo shared a look, Angelo already slipping out of the bed and taking a knife with him in one smooth move.
"Are you expecting a visitor?" He asked quietly, slanted eyes fixed on the door.
Lake’s eyes went wide in a panic, "I-I’m sure it’s just Rosie," He hastily reassured Angelo, "No one else will be able to get in."
Angelo straightened up from his offensive position, but he didn’t drop the knife, walking over to the door.
Caspian’s eyes widened with a smile at the unexpected sight. "Angelo! Why are you here?"
Angelo panicked slightly and tried to sneakily tuck his knife away out of Caspian’s eyes, completely forgetting that there was a nightstand full of them just a few feet away.
"Davian and Rosie had things to do," He murmured, "I’m keeping an eye on Lake." He said shortly, stepping back to let the pretty Omega in.
The happiness on Caspian’s face soured into worry, his sweet scent doing likewise as he hurried into the room, expecting to find Lake with a foot in the grave.
Lake hadn’t been paying attention to the door, fully expecting it to be Rosie coming to do a check-in in person. So his eyes went wide with muted happiness at the sight of Caspian, ditching the forkful of fudge he had been about to eat.
"Caspian! I wasn’t expecting you," He beamed, inching off the bed. "Wait," He cut himself off, letting Caspian hang off his neck. "Did Davian put you up to this?" He asked with narrowed eyes.
Caspian straightened up, Lake looked perfectly fine, it helped him breath easier, the subtle sweet scents of the other two Omegas in the room rather soothing. "He is just worried about you," He immediately came too Davian’s defense.
Lake shook his head fondly, "I’m fine, we’re just eating and watching shows."
Caspian didn’t wait for and invitation, kicking his shoes off with a smile. "Not without me, you’re not." He got on the bed, crawling to the middle to slide under the blanket.
