Zhao Yang and Liu Hai both agreed with Zhang Nu after hearing his words. This was Ling Xi’s matter, and they had no right to intervene. Even if they did step in, it should be Lin Xiao who handled it.
“So what should we do now? Should we go check out that temple first, or see how Ling Xi is doing?”
Zhang Nu frowned at Liu Hai’s question.
It was indeed a tricky problem. If nothing unexpected happened, he would prefer to check on Ling Xi first. Ling Xi was, after all, their companion. If something happened to her, they would be held responsible, unable to face her former family—and it could even cause conflict between them.
“Let’s try contacting Lin Xiao first, see exactly where he took Ling Xi. Before we set off tomorrow, we must check on her and see if she needs our help.”
But Zhao Yang shook his head. “If we really want to help Ling Xi, we have to find her and Lin Xiao tonight. We’re still heading to that temple tomorrow. If something happens there, we might not even be able to protect ourselves.”
Zhang Nu realized Zhao Yang’s point was very realistic and accurate. In that case, it was better to follow Zhao Yang’s suggestion and find Ling Xi and Lin Xiao first.
“In that case, let’s head out now. This town isn’t big, and Ling Xi and Lin Xiao are quite eye-catching. We should be able to find them quickly.”
Zhao Yang and Liu Hai nodded, and the three of them set off to search.
What they didn’t notice was that, the moment they left, a tail had quietly begun shadowing them.
Finally, the three arrived outside the Laifu Inn. They had already searched almost every inn in town—this was the only one left. If nothing unexpected happened, Ling Xi and Lin Xiao should be inside.
“Ling Xi and Lin Xiao are most likely here. We have to find them quickly. If Ling Xi was forced back into her original form, it’s probably because her cultivation suffered sudden damage. We might have to pass some of our cultivation over to her.”
Hearing this, Zhao Yang and Liu Hai immediately nodded. They had already anticipated this possibility and fully agreed—it made perfect sense.
“Ah, Zhang Nu, don’t worry. Leave it to us. How much cultivation could a little girl like Ling Xi possibly need? We men can recover after resting for a day. But Ling Xi’s different—she’s a girl. We have to take good care of her.”
Zhang Nu could only shake his head helplessly. If Lin Xiao overheard those words, Zhao Yang would not be let off so easily. Lin Xiao had already come to see Ling Xi as his personal possession. Ling Xi herself might not yet realize it, but if Lin Xiao ever learned that someone was coveting her, he would never let that person go.
“Just don’t say that in front of Lin Xiao—unless you want to see what he’s capable of,” Zhao Yang understood immediately and looked at Zhang Nu in shock. He hadn’t expected Lin Xiao to already have such intentions toward Ling Xi.
Though Zhao Yang hadn’t interacted much with Lin Xiao, he could tell the man was calculating and deep-minded. Someone like him was not suited for someone as pure as Ling Xi—she would be completely under his control.
“I’ve seen this coming for a while. Then why haven’t you warned Lin Xiao? He’s not suitable for her. If they force themselves together, Ling Xi will be the one to suffer.”
By now, Zhao Yang had already come to see Ling Xi as his own younger sister. He didn’t want anything bad to happen to her.
But Zhang Nu felt Zhao Yang was still thinking too naively. Whatever Lin Xiao intended to do, he would not be swayed—except when it came to compromising for Ling Xi’s sake.
“You’re underestimating him. On this matter, Lin Xiao will never back down. To him, Ling Xi is someone of utmost importance. If you dare lay a hand on her, he absolutely won’t let you go.”
Hearing this, Zhao Yang realized just how important Ling Xi had already become to Lin Xiao.
