Chapter 1260: Chapter 1249: To Do or Not to Do?
Ning Fan walked up to her and smiled mischievously, “Since I’ve helped you so much, come on, let’s get cozy as a thank you?”
Saying this, Ning Fan put his arm around her neck and gave her a peck.
But Lan Kexin dashed off as if she were a little chick caught by an eagle, stumbling slightly and speaking with a playful yet annoyed tone, “You rascal, doing something like this without caring about the setting. If someone else saw it, you’d be in big trouble.”
The “someone else” he referred to was, of course, Xu Ruolan.
If his official lady saw the intimacy between the two, she would definitely not let it go.
Especially since Xu Ruolan was just feeling jealous yesterday, and her mood was still volatile.
Ning Fan also felt a bit scared, but seeing Lan Kexin’s lovely figure fleeing in panic, he couldn’t help teasing again.
“Don’t go, let’s chat a bit more, just ten bucks worth,”
“Oh no…”
Already flustered and anxious, Lan Kexin suddenly tripped and fell at that moment.
But she didn’t dare to look back, struggling to stand up and managed to trot down the stairs in her little heels.
This scene was just witnessed by Xu Ruolan, who stepped out of the CEO’s office, preparing to go on an inspection, and she was somewhat curious.
Xu Ruolan looked again at the stairs leading to the rooftop, discovering that Ning Fan was coming down, and playfully scolded, “You troublemaker, what mischief have you been up to again, scaring Lan Kexin like that?”
“How should I know? That woman said I’ve been slacking off too much lately and threatened to deduct my year-end bonus, so in a fit of anger, I threatened her. If she dared to deduct my bonus, I’d show her some colors. So she got scared and ran away.”
Ning Fan used his persuasive tongue to bluff.
Amazingly, Xu Ruolan believed him, and scolded, “It’s true you’ve been out of line recently. I agree with deducting your year-end bonus.”
Then she stood there with her arms crossed, looking at Ning Fan with an amused expression.
Ning Fan walked up to her, lightly lifted her chin, and said roguishly, “Ruolan, you seem to have some free time today. How about we do something fun?”
“You’re awful!”
Hearing this, Xu Ruolan’s face turned red. She swatted his hand away and turned to walk back into her office, calling out as her voice echoed away.
“Come over here, I have some tasks to assign to you.”
What?
Ning Fan was dumbfounded. When you talk emotions with Xu Ruolan, she talks rank with you, what can you do?
Ning Fan walked into the CEO’s office, sat down, lit a cigarette, and started smoking, puffing out clouds of smoke.
Xu Ruolan frowned and ordered, “Put the cigarette out for me. This is the company, and it’s still my CEO’s office. You’re acting so inappropriately. I can only imagine how reckless you are in your security office.”
Lan Kexin wanting to dock your pay isn’t without reason.”
“Hey, Ruolan, you’re actually taking her side, I’m hurt.” Ning Fan feigned a hurt expression, his acting superb, lifelike.
“Cut the crap, I’m assigning you some tasks to address the recent lack of assertiveness in the security department.”
Xu Ruolan didn’t buy into his antics and instead got serious, taking an official tone as she laid out the plan, “Keeping the current routine isn’t viable. This is the city center, relatively safer. With you and Zhu Xuetao as the two experts in the security department, that’s enough. The rest of the security just needs to patrol and prevent strangers from causing trouble. Training them like that is just costing the company. We need to stop the training immediately and assist the fire office in checking for safety hazards, and help the sanitation office with cleaning. These tasks are more fitting.”
“Ruolan, we are security guards. Fire safety and sanitation aren’t our responsibilities; those are for the logistics department.” Ning Fan argued absurdly, refusing to take on the tasks himself.
“Just tell me, will you do it or not?”
Xu Ruolan got a little angry, her face dark with displeasure as she asked.
“Since you want me to do it, I’ll do it.”
Ning Fan failed to charm his way out and ended up being assigned a ton of work instead.
Realizing he couldn’t stick around much longer, he quickly slipped out leaving no trace.
Xu Ruolan closed her paperwork and laughed heartily, almost doubling over, completely amused.
Then, her expression turned unusually serious, musing to herself, “Dear, don’t blame me for being too harsh. After all, you’ll be leading the Ning Family in the future, and I’ll be the Lady of the House, with responsibilities to guide and support. It’s about time you amend some of these capricious behaviors.”
Ning Fan, unaware of Xu Ruolan’s thoughtful care, was already leading the security team into enthusiastic service activities.
Whether it was helping the fire office with safety inspections or assisting the sanitation office with cleaning, these were much easier than working out in the gym.
The security guards were jubilant, working earnestly.
The people in the fire and sanitation offices were shocked to see Ning Fan’s security department being so proactive.
Of course, they weren’t the only ones shocked. The employees in every department of the entire company were stunned as well.
They observed the security guards diligently working on all floors of Xu Corporation’s building, and the discussions started among them.
“See? Ning has really made an impact. The image of the security department changes entirely with or without him.”
“No doubt. These rough guys, when Zhu Xuetao was in charge, could barely be managed. But when Ning Fan took over, he immediately launched large-scale reforms, survival of the fittest. Anyone who didn’t obey was out. With such measures in place, these guys naturally didn’t dare slack off and had to follow orders.”
“Exactly, and don’t forget Ning Fan’s relationship with our CEO. He’s got someone backing him.”
If Ning Fan heard all this, he’d be rolling on the floor laughing.
He might even laugh heartily thrice and say, “You guys have no idea, right? Actually, even above Manager Xu… there’s someone else, who’s been here for days already, no kidding?”
This kind of joke, though, is only shared between Ning Fan and Xu Ruolan, not for outsiders.
Amid tedious work, time just slipped away like that.
Soon enough, a week passed.
Under Xu Xiaoqing’s persistent requests, Ning Fan had no choice but to accompany her on the Zhonghai University’s autumn outing.
Unfortunately, Ning Fan had to work overtime during the day, and in the evening, he was dragged by Xu Xiaoqing onto the tour bus.
This was the moment Ning Fan could finally rest a bit, lying in his seat and sleeping deeply, without any thought of joking around with Xu Xiaoqing.
The students of Zhonghai University, however, were filled with envy and jealousy.
Sitting next to the campus belle Xu Xiaoqing was naturally someone she approved of.
Yet here was Ning Fan, sleeping as soon as he got on, totally ignoring Xu Xiaoqing’s demeanor.
Xu Xiaoqing was completely happy with this, showing no dissatisfaction, letting Ning Fan rest his head on her shoulder as he slept. Occasionally, she’d glance at him gently before going back to watching dramas on her phone.
