Chapter 1070: Chapter 1059: Where Did This Beggar Come From

“Ning Fan, did you agree?”

Zhao Xue’er couldn’t quite believe her ears and asked again.

After receiving Ning Fan’s affirmative answer, Zhao Xue’er’s silvery laughter echoed over the phone.

“Alright then, tomorrow night at eight, I’ll be waiting for you at the entrance of the Star Hotel. Don’t forget!”

Zhao Xue’er’s sweet voice came through the phone: “I won’t disturb you anymore, Ning Fan. Get some rest early. Goodnight.”

Even after the call ended, Ning Fan’s face wore a wry smile.

Zhao Xue’er wished him goodnight, but how could he possibly fall asleep now?

Matters concerning Qiu Xiuxiu had already stirred a ripple in his otherwise placid mind, and now Zhao Xue’er’s call had him even more undecided.

Rationally, he really didn’t want to get caught up in any more emotional entanglements.

But emotionally, he found it hard to say no to Zhao Xue’er.

Unlike Ouyang Feifei, who could be strong and independent, a self-made woman even in his absence,

based on what Ning Fan knew about Zhao Xue’er, if he really rejected her, she might not say it, but she would be very upset inside.

After pondering for a while, Ning Fan reluctantly realized that he had convinced himself and couldn’t find any reason to refuse.

A restless night.

The next morning, Ning Fan rubbed his sleepy eyes, washed up briefly in the lounge, and didn’t even change clothes before heading out.

In fact, he hadn’t even taken off his clothes the night before, lying across the bed, his mind swirling with thoughts, unable to sleep.

Lacking the heart to handle company affairs, Ning Fan aimlessly wandered the streets and alleys of Dragon City the whole day, showing up at the Star Hotel right at the time he and Zhao Xue’er had agreed upon.

As a landmark building of Dragon City, the five-star Star Hotel was bustling with cars and people even at just eight o’clock, a scene of flourishing nightlife.

Just as Ning Fan was about to call Zhao Xue’er, a delighted voice called out from not far away.

“Ning Fan, I’m over here, hurry up!”

Ning Fan looked up and saw Zhao Xue’er waving at him with a sweet smile.

Dressed in a pink cartoon T-shirt and navy skinny jeans, Zhao Xue’er, waving at Ning Fan, perfectly embodied the earthly definition of the word ‘Angel’.

As Ning Fan slowly made his way toward Zhao Xue’er’s location, a young man standing beside her glanced up at Ning Fan, somewhat impatiently saying, “Xue’er, is that the friend you were talking about?”

“Yeah, Ning Fan is really nice.”

Zhao Xue’er nodded repeatedly, not forgetting to praise Ning Fan a bit.

“Our class hasn’t had a reunion for years. We were only supposed to bring family, but I didn’t think our Xue’er the goddess already had family. Thinking about it gives me chills.”

As soon as the young man finished speaking, a guy with slicked-back hair and crooked teeth clutched his chest in a mock-exaggerated gesture.

“It’s not as dramatic as you all make it out to be. He’s just my brother. Also, Luo Hui, you’re already a father of two. Isn’t it a bit over the top to say such things? Do you want me to complain to your wife right now?”

Zhao Xue’er glanced at Luo Hui, mildly exasperated as she spoke.

“No, no, stop right there. I wasn’t saying it for myself; I was speaking for our buddy Chao. Chao is still single, you know, so many beauties throwing themselves at him and he doesn’t even bat an eye. Xue’er, don’t you get his feelings?”

As Luo Hui spoke, his gaze was fixed on the young man who had spoken earlier. Seeing the young man give him an approving look, Luo Hui felt a surge of joy as he continued, “Since he’s not family, it looks like our reunion tonight might see a new couple formed.”

“Luo Hui, cut it out.”

The young man was, of course, Wang Chao.

He had admired Zhao Xue’er for a long time, persistently pursuing her since school, but had never managed to shift their relationship from classmates to lovers.

This reunion was orchestrated by him, booking out the entire second floor of the Star Hotel, a feat not just anyone could pull off.

Wang Chao quickly noticed Zhao Xue’er slightly frowning and knew he shouldn’t rush things; thus, he patiently stayed by her side.

Until Ning Fan finally sauntered over, Wang Chao took a good look at Ning Fan before speaking, “Why didn’t you drive over, friend? Traffic around Dragon City isn’t great at night.”

“Huh? Drive?”

Ning Fan shrugged casually, “I don’t have a car; I walked over. Sorry for keeping you all waiting.”

“Pfft…”

Someone stifled a laugh, whispering to their classmate nearby, “Wow, is this guy from Mars or something? His clothes are all shabby, his shirt’s wrinkled and even has a hole in it. How does Xue’er know someone like this?”

“Who knows? If not for Xue’er waving at him, I would’ve thought he was a beggar on the street.”

“We’ll definitely have to talk to Xue’er later; why bring someone like this to a reunion? Can he even keep up with our conversation?”

Murmurs spread, but Ning Fan seemed oblivious, his attention solely on Zhao Xue’er as he smiled and asked, “How’s work been lately? Tired?”

“Not tired.”

Zhao Xue’er replied cheerfully, then noted the hole in Ning Fan’s shirt and whispered, “Hand me the shirt later; I’ll mend it for you.”

“No need.”

Ning Fan waved it off; he wasn’t concerned with such trivial details in life.

Scanning the group, he noticed that, apart from Zhao Xue’er, everyone else seemed unfriendly—either ignoring him while chatting happily with others or whispering and throwing disdainful glances his way.

Ning Fan paid them no mind; in his view, they weren’t worth conversing with.

“Alright, since everyone’s here, let’s not waste any more time and head in.”

Wang Chao gave Ning Fan another once-over, determined that he posed no threat, which lightened his mood considerably as he announced, “Everyone should eat well and enjoy themselves tonight.”

“Of course, Chao is so generous, booking the whole second floor of the Star Hotel. It’s hard not to have fun. I’ve never seen this kind of thing before, especially in a five-star hotel.”

A girl dressed in a backless outfit, flaunting flamboyant makeup, deliberately inched closer to Wang Chao. She gave him a coy smile and asked, “Chao, could you tell us how much it cost?”
