Chapter 988: Chapter 977: Xu Ruolan’s Progress!
In the following days, Xu Xiaoqing was rushing from one interview to another without a break.
“So tired!”
After almost a week of absence, Xu Xiaoqing suddenly burst into the living room, tossed her little blazer onto a chair, kicked off her high heels, and collapsed onto the sofa.
Xu Ruolan was sitting cross-legged, practicing the “Ice Heart Technique,” with her eyes closed and motionless, as if she were a jade sculpture.
“You know, as someone who is about to enter the workforce, can you be a bit more composed? Look at your sister, she never kicks her high heels up to the second floor when she comes home!”
Ning Fan, holding a teacup, looked at the exhausted Xu Xiaoqing, his words full of mockery.
“Tch, you didn’t see how my sister was when she first started working!”
Xu Xiaoqing buried her face deep into the pillow, as if determined to lie there for ten thousand years.
“Miss Xu the second, I suggest you remove your makeup first, otherwise the pillow will end up with patches of white and red, and that’ll ruin it.”
“Ugh… I don’t want to move, don’t want to move, don’t want to move! Who set the rule that interviews require makeup and high heels? It’s such a bother!”
Xu Xiaoqing, dragging out her words listlessly, showed no intention of getting up.
Ning Fan shook his head helplessly and sat down on a chair nearby, sipping his tea in silence.
Nearly twenty minutes later, Xu Xiaoqing finally lifted her head and glanced at her sister.
“Ning Fan, what kind of twisted thoughts are you feeding my sister again? Why isn’t she moving at all?”
“Twisted thoughts? Your sister is practicing the ‘Ice Heart Technique,’ a genuine cultivation technique!”
Ning Fan pointed at Xu Xiaoqing with disdain in his voice.
“Huh? I was shouting so loud just now—did I make her deviate or something?”
“Ice Heart Technique requires inner peace, and if she can’t overcome even this little disturbance, there’s no way she’ll attain the right result. So, how did Miss Xu the second’s interviews go?”
Ning Fan looked at Xu Xiaoqing with an expectant gaze.
“Why, are you realizing you did something wrong and now trying to show concern for me?”
“When you decide to do something, not even a rocket can pull you back. What can I do?”
“Hmm… It went alright. I, with my extraordinary aura, am fundamentally different from those naive cuties still rehearsing lines at the door!”
Xu Xiaoqing tidied her flowing hair and drew an arc of confidence in the air with her hand.
Two days later, Xu Xiaoqing officially started working at a sports equipment company.
During the interview a few days ago, the interviewer really asked about Xu Xiaoqing and Xu Ruolan’s relationship.
At that time, Xu Xiaoqing simply smiled and said it was just a coincidence they shared the same surname.
After her first day at work, Xu Xiaoqing returned home happily to announce the good news.
“Ta-da! I’ve finally landed a job on my own without relying on any connections!”
Xu Xiaoqing was brimming with excitement, raising her hands high above her head.
“Oh, what position did you get?”
Xu Ruolan asked with a face full of expectation.
“Assistant to the manager.”
“That’s basically a secretary to the manager, right?”
Ning Fan shrugged, still with a teasing tone.
“Secretary?”
Xu Xiaoqing seemed dissatisfied with the term.
Ning Fan nodded and continued:
“Yeah, generally, secretaries serve greasy middle-aged men, the kind with a receding hairline.”
“What? Our manager has a low hairline and takes care of his appearance!”
“Then you should be even more careful; he might be a wolf in sheep’s clothing, ready to pounce like a fierce dog once the suit’s off.”
Ning Fan wasn’t speaking without reason.
Today, he carefully investigated the company that hired Xu Xiaoqing, as well as her colleagues.
This company had little interaction with Xu Corporation, but the few times they did, conflicts arose.
More importantly, the manager who held a direct superior-subordinate relationship with Xu Xiaoqing didn’t have a good reputation, reportedly often making inappropriate advances on female employees.
After Xu Xiaoqing went to sleep, Ning Fan checked the relevant materials on his computer and found that this company often had female employees resign mysteriously, with the more attractive ones leaving even faster.
However, Xu Xiaoqing, who had just found a job and was in high spirits, didn’t take Ning Fan’s words seriously.
The first three workdays went without incident.
However, on the fourth day, when the manager was taking a file, he inexplicably grabbed Xu Xiaoqing’s hand and didn’t let go for a while.
“Manager, you… what are you doing?”
“Huh? Reading the file?”
“Can you just take the file and read it?”
Xu Xiaoqing frowned and spoke bluntly.
“Oh.”
The manager responded, took the file, and walked away.
A while later, the manager came over again and said in a deep voice:
“Xiaoqing, take a look at last month’s sales charts.”
Xu Xiaoqing nodded and pulled up the file on her computer.
“Scroll down.”
The manager placed his right hand on Xu Xiaoqing’s shoulder, examining the figures on the screen.
As he looked, his right hand slid forward, along Xu Xiaoqing’s shoulder.
Though Xu Xiaoqing’s figure wasn’t as perfect as her sister Xu Ruolan’s, there was still more than just ribs in front.
“Ah! Manager, you… what are you doing!”
Xu Xiaoqing screamed, immediately pushing the manager’s hand away and standing up.
This was outright harassment!
However, the surrounding colleagues continued to look at their files and computers, with no one turning a head in their direction.
“Sorry, hand slipped.”
The manager flashed a wicked smile, rubbing his thumb and middle finger together in a light pinching motion.
“You…”
Xu Xiaoqing glared at the manager, her face red with anger.
“Xiaoqing, you need to focus on your work and not be distracted by external factors.”
The manager, unfazed, even used a reprimanding tone.
“You call that a distraction? It’s outright harassment!”
Xu Xiaoqing retorted loudly at the manager.
The manager shook his head, looking somewhat disappointed.
“Xiaoqing, as a newcomer, you shouldn’t be so impatient. I’m really disappointed in you. All right, after work, come to my office. I’ll explain the company rules and regulations to you.
Xiao Chen, make sure to remind Xiaoqing so she doesn’t forget.”
“Understood!”
A male employee named Xiao Chen nodded, giving Xu Xiaoqing a fierce look.
The manager calmly walked away, as if nothing had happened.
Xu Xiaoqing had no mind to work anymore. As soon as the manager left, she grabbed her bag and walked out of the office.
Little did she know, as she stepped out, Xiao Chen followed closely behind.
Xu Xiaoqing knew that menacing gaze kept its focus on her.
“This Xiao Chen is clearly here to monitor me!”
Xu Xiaoqing lamented internally and, to avoid provoking Xiao Chen, obediently returned to the office.
Seeing that no one was watching, Xu Xiaoqing quickly edited a message and sent it to Ning Fan.
“Xiaoqing in trouble, need help.”
Almost simultaneously, ning Fan, who was strolling along the tree-lined street below, heard his phone chime.
